Panel extension glassed in and sanded flush https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...2f1bab3992.jpg First round of fairing sanded down https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...fa1b9a5273.jpg Really happy with how flat it all ended up https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...c37df2b4bc.jpg |

Got that panel extension trimmed to size the other night https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...587221caae.jpg Finally got the port side dash support tabbed into the bulkhead panel on this side https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...2af9129712.jpg Little setback when filling the open edges of the panel cores. Standby for explanation 😂 |
I filled in the front edges (of the honeycomb core) of the dash supports and the back edge of that panel extension on the starboard side with thickened resin. I had the wax and MEKP measured out alongside the cup of resin. I mixed in the wax before I started adding cabosil and was planning to add the hardener after I reached peanut butter consistency. Well, I got back into the boat the next day, excited to sand it all down nice and flush, and I ran my finger across the filled edge and covered my finger with thickened resin. I spent a few minutes thinking back and retracing my steps to solve the mystery of the uncured "peanut butter." I realized that when I was cleaning everything up the night before, I dumped a curious amount of MEKP out of the small measuring cup into the trash. At the moment I had a split second thought that it seemed like a lot of extra to be tossing out. In hindsight I realized that it wasn't just residual hardener I dumped into the trash. I never actually mixed any into the resin! Lesson of the day folks, save the weed pen for monotonous activities like sanding, not resin mixing 🤣🤣🤣An hour or so of cleanup and I was good to go!
Tonight I went over and redid that work. I triple checked that both the wax and hardener were mixed in this time lol. Ya live and ya learn I suppose 😂. Exciting note- I think I'm actually going to be laying gelcoat down at some point next week! |

Panel edges filled and sanded https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...bc4cdb0f19.jpg Also got the corners of the cuddy entrance rounded out nicely and final sanded https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...69536c1f58.jpg Some makeshift squared-edge block sanders for the panel edges and also the bottom edges of the dash. Not really enough surface area for my orbital sander to leave a nice flat face. Also made a spindle sander for those corners. That black plastic puck is spacer from a transfer case lowering kit for one of my old jeeps lol. Worked great! |
Looking good!!
