going make SABER KNOWN AGAIN

:coolcowboy: Thanks to jon, I am the new proud owner of a 28 SABER!!!! Wish I made the move 20yrs ago when looking at the there single no power add in powerboat mag. but instead of a 1yr old 26sutphen 365hp b1 for 24,000 or the saber I bought the 24 baja sport aka OL 330hp 16,700.00. and did a lot of motor changes over the yrs getting to 83.2mph with 2 small of a prop. I see what I missed in a custom boat with the SABER. So we need to get a line on SABER CLOTHES JACKETS, SWEATS, POLOS, TEEs. Who owns Saber now, cause I was thinking making a design for a jacket or sweats a patch one design in my head would be the 3 boats going from bottom to top faned out the 41 in the middle 28 on one side 34 on the other then have saber offshore power boats as a border with saber across the top and left to right halfway down the rest. other wise I have so much baja clothes I will just but baja on it:eek::evilb: and is parnnel making the 41 or are the brothers making a 28. it looks modern to me old school at the same time.I am sic of the european trashy looking boats builtin swimplateforms do'nt like that look. 1st thing is to get the drive set up then motor in, red bezels for gauges red steering wheel, then if I have the time start the cabin seats and bed area with red leather or a high end vinly but like real leather and come up with a design for the floors the rug that is down . its a glue marine good job but its the thinner 22oz not the 40oz. so it will go if not this season next but I should do it now with a custom ASHLEY TAYLOR RUG need a theme, pokercards with dice, or animal skin design pirates skull design. cause if I don't change the paint we may add to it black and silver with a devil skulled something on deck, name could be HELL TIME instead of AIRTIME 2:evilb:, RED DEVIL, SATANs DEN, SATANS TOY, think of these cause the design on the boat right now looks like a devils tail or a dragons tail, hey my life for the last five half years been HELL hahaha with the 6 surgeries I have had in that time and am still phucked up with this sucky knee replacement so maybe hell time would be good. but it mostly will end up airt time II. I hope to break a 100 with 1000 hp if not turn up the boost race gas:evilb: later dudes. THANKS AGAIN JON:coolcowboy:

thanks the only question I have now is there a enough room for the blower pulley:eek: with the gas tank under the seat going across. john thought there was 10'' infront of his hp500 motor. I was wondering if anyone has a boat where they could look down and measure it for me. I think a 1071 pulley will stick out 3 to 4''. so if its 10'' like john thought fine but if its anything under 6'' the motor would have to be pulled to change the pulley:eek:. I would hate to move the gas tank thats 3grand NEW TANK:eek:glass work CG would change so to nights going to be a sleepless night:eek:. I am going to take measurements off my baja the 509 is still in it and get numbers off my bilge which would of needed to be moved. then drive to the boat hope it works or get pissed and resell it. I only planned to glass the transom and exhaust not moving gas tanks thats why I bought it instead of the 30sutphen cause that was cheaper but it needed transom filled recut, gas tank out replaced with a sideways one. but I do like the way its built and the sutphen crew stopped by to night while I was at the docs getting my injections in my shoulders and said it looked to close, so I will blame them haha for not sleeping tonight.I wish I thought about taking measurements of my baja when I saw the boat. I think airtime will go on it for a name. I also need to get bigger posts for the trailer yesterday I noticed it was over hanging by 6'' and the 3x10 x11 is too short so before the drive and motor go in its getting jacked up un bolted replace. lets hope the gas tank is not in the way haaha. guess I will lurk somemore until daybreak then get going oh boy. but if someone double check for me thanks my phone is 617 833 3327 nut job artie right now.

AIR TIME 11-06-2009 08:15 PM

well we headed to Erines and took some sizes from his blower motor and it should make it by a 1 1/2'' and could be a little more with raising the motor and X for better performance. I wished there was more room so it would be easy to change pulleys, WE WILL HAVE TO MAKE A TOOL FOR THAT. my glass guy is tied up for 3 weeks it looks. so it may head NORTH. Thanks for the call JOHN:coolcowboy: I will keep you posted art

littledcsrodshop 11-07-2009 12:19 AM

I've not completly read through to many threads lately & Just seen this.. So not real sure how much it would help ? But I'm only like 2 miles from my shop & will most likely be down there sometime tomorrow, so I would be glad to measure anything you want.. ??
However I would probably need some refeance points since our engine compartments are set up completly differant as far as fuel tanks & location as well as overall length... My engine is sitting here in the garage pretty much ready to drop in with the exception of running some wire off the merc plug.. So forgive any oversight but if you need a referance from the belhousing , Harmonic balancer ect.. forward ? back ?ect.. just let me know ? I would be glad to help out any way if I can ?? That being said its not like either of us can hop in the truck & rundown to our local dealership & check one out.. However that part does add to the cool factor & just one of the many reasons mine is marinating warm & dry as we speak !! ;)

Art..are you going to race the boat in OPA?

Ironmanwb 11-09-2009 09:18 AM

Nice ride, I have been looking at that boat since it was put back on the market. I wish I could have pulled the trigger but just couldn't right now. I am sure you will make it a screamer.

Congrats.

not sure after the phucking TKO got last year with opa pushing them out of p2 making a sv instead so he would not fit in and then he races p2 in sbi and now they put him in p1 with a open family boat has back seats haaha its a fast SUTPHEN 39. THEY HAVE STEPS AND LIDS he has a bigger motor and did not break out they did the same to BOXER in p4 with his blowered powered 26 sutphen they wanted to move him up to p3:eek: phucking 26ft boat. if your from there area your fine phuck ogie was running the condo in p4 with blowers I thought 750hp, they never threw him out. but walt has blowers and a open cockpit he will get phucked up the azz next week. I was going to go but knew I would never be able to race after I would shoot my mouth off at usi and call the sv opa guys babys haaha. so I am staying home. hey I came in 3rd back in 02 cape race and mike a phucked me out of a trophey:angry-smiley-038:. I thought opa was going to be great but same old bullchit. I might try the maimi race to the island and back and the other old time race. I got two motors big one was for p4 and the smaller p5, but just might do pokerruns with gerry in the skater 46 turbine and I am wondering if walt is giving up after this yr. it sux. I bet they say something to the superboat 30 with twin OBs if he wins it all. I bet they move him up, what it is the old straight vees can go into the turns near wide open and the step boats need to slow down a lot I was told so the ob kicks azz, same with walt he is in a 105mph class in p2 now they want him at 115mph in p1 with no lid. your dead meat, I am going to make a shirt up lid boats are for *****s or real men don't need no lid boats maybe on the transom. hey I like going 140 open cockpit in the skater next year faster cause the f16s are gone had a full windshield made:coolcowboy: sorry for venting I blame it on my pain haaha, but what are you doing post back art

thanks it has some scratches in the new paint:eek:, that was kind of sad wasn't expecting it. hahha but I got the paint crew here we will add to it instead of doing it over. motors tight:eek:, but should fit drive goes on next week may rig it with sm motor to get the tails ordered and new motor mounts set up. not sure of the big motor hope for dec, jan. its going to paint this week I think. its a little smaller than I thought so it should run 98 to 104 with the big power and raised x. I bet with a bravo 1 x of 17 1/2= about 4 1/2'' below the keel that boat would run 72 to 75 gps with a 500hp merc. if a new one was built with sglass cored as is but vacum bagged with a lighter motor hatch it would be faster. if its slow I will blue print the bottom and have the strakes sharped instead of rounded like my baja. sutphens are sharp. thanks john did a nice job on his upgrades:coolcowboy:

Art,
I believe OPA is offering Class 2 if there are at least three boats. The bracket rules are far from perfect;but I think OPA has done a pretty good job putting boats in the right classes.I hope Walt and his TKO team come back to OPA,there are some real good things planned for 2010.You guys should all come down to the OPA awards party in Feb.

Your boat would fit well in Class 5;the comaraderie and competition is great.I sure hope that you race, trust me,you will be hooked again real quick.Good luck with your new ride.

thanks konrad ace just got here, and motor should be here next month jan the latest, its been ready since last feb. but I had Dean hold off on putting it together until I was off comp, told the wife no work no boat:grinser010:, its only fair but now I got the hull and drive:coolcowboy:. I figure we need a few weeks to get everything hook up, then have DEAN come and run it so I know its right were he wants it. then hope to hit the miami race if I find a sponsor:bigbird:. its good that there are wraps out there. so any Co can go on your boat. I wish I bought a unpowered hull 19 yrs ago these are unreal under the floor.

AIR TIME 11-11-2009 11:01 PM

568 IF I run I would be in 400 class with the 572 blower motor or 500 with you guys in the 509 . well WALT got a 3rd to day but was running better than that at 1st I think only talked to the boys for a minute or two. whats nuts in 600 class tyler was running big hp and he moved himself and theres guys in 500 400 with big power too. to run a open cockpit boat for 40mins in a race over 90mph up to 105 in 200 class is a lot harder than a lid boat. there sitting straped to the boat not boucing around like walt they had steps he is a straight hull. he should get more power, and like the old superboat non step he can go into turns faster without rolling. I use to practice turns around cans in my baja so I knew how fast the boat would turn before sliding . and the saber has longer streaks that run full length inner and outer most are outer only so ,I hope it will help with chine walk as meaning none with the full steering:coolcowboy:. I am going for the miami race for now and need to see what income my family is generating by spring. plus I STILL HAVEHEALTH problems the new knee sucks, old one sucks, can't lift my arms over my head cause of the torn router cufts, back 5 disks but going to PH for all 3 and gym but have been bad the last few weeks. I need to get there everyday my wife has been:hitit:. so we will see how KW ends up. need to find out if mark ran the sb in 500 class today. and it would be great if walt gets back to opa its my favorite site out of all of them smithy and AMF are the best good luck Mark. art

AIR TIME 11-17-2009 07:44 PM

HAHA that remark about the motor was from my evil side, just found out I am bi polar,[just kidding] someone else posted that post haha. its coming in dec or jan, my fault I didn't want it all put together just sitting. anyway artie and artimus kind we have the x figured out artie says 17 '' =3 1/2 prop shaft height and artimus says 17 1/2''= 3'' and we just artimus just gave artie a punch so my my front teeth are in my hand its a cap:angry-smiley-038: thank god for superglue I just hope its not toxic:evilb:. I have been using it once a month on my cap:grinser010:. once this boat is done I will see the dentist and have this mess fixed that the other hack of a Dentist did 3grand out the window.:evilb: well so there you have it, I may call the factory again see what they say cause its easier to add a spacer than go up:coolcowboy: bet your warm ICE or are you back yet. gerry thanks for the pic haha.

AIR TIME 11-19-2009 11:51 PM

I got a pm from a source who put a ace on a superboat at 2'' and they feel it could of gone less, they were at 3'' and boat slowed down. NOW WHAT, I am going to talk to the builder see how much natural bow lift there is it has rocker and the strakes or chines run down to the transom on both inner and outer . so if it has lots of lift maybe 2'' might work OBOY!!! nope 3'' it is they had a notch which is like a box so I could see 1 to 2 .. working. pete I will theres pics on thread project 28 here that john put togethere last winter. I got to go look for my nuts that hold the jeep hard top on for the winter can't find them and I know there all wraped up so I won't lose them.

hey there yes I will be in it on sunday if the rain stops and will get some more pics and unscrew 6'' plate in the cockpit so you can see the lay up. it looks like Gerry's skater big thick balsa everywhere bottom to top never seen it in a vee hull out here. and the deck and hull are glassed to. don't think its vac bagged, but that would be great for any new ones. it sounds so solid when you tap anywhere. once its in the water I am going to design a custom rug with fades for cockpit and cabin, but instead of glue down might make it a pull out with velcro straps. whats a shame is john had new 22oz black carpet installed its nice, but 88oz to 108oz will fell cool, the best marine rug now is 40oz in most of your top boat companys from R&R TEXTILES its nice but ours is a different animal cost more going to make three samples mine/cig/skater to test and make sure it does not get matty. I would like to try and add a mat to it like mitigater that PPI sells so with there mat and 88ozs of high end nylon ,wool or silk will die thats for homes and offices only.

Jesus Artie you hurt my feelings. My boat is 1" balsa bottom and 3/4" sides and deck with 3/4" Baltek Deckolite panels for the stringers and bulkhead's. Completely laid up using vinyl-ester resin. All the stringer and bulkheads openings are capped with carbon fiber. The transom is 1 1/2" high density balsa.

THATS RIGHT:coolcowboy:, I climbed in your boat back when you helped me make the motor deck for thec baja haha, and I asked whats that black chit on the edges bulkheads cf. you need to get her back out in the water and race it. perfect for P5 OR P4 SBI or OPA 500 or 400 class. How could I forget the COOL RUNNING boat. thanks for the help Jeb you are one of the master craftsman in boating. it was cool when the phone was ringing and you would go done to the marinas and figure whats wrong for them. like the 40ft formula with trips 502,465hp. but a bing but a bam you had it running real quick everytime it would not start:coolcowboy: later jeb.

THANKS ANYTIME, might move it around, keep it in plymouth for a month, fallriver, prov RI, WHEN WE GO OUT WITH GERRY, I'll give him a head start:evilb:.hahahaa, I should have the motor by jan, it will take time to set the exhaust tails need to be made. looking for a 101mph for when DEAN comes to tune it in the prov river or fallriver in april, whats good I have a back up motor. its a solid hull being all glassed and corded. and light well known for its rough water prance up on the great lakes, it will take sometime to get use to it cause its been 3 yrs so easy 1st, but will see what it has with DEAN.

haaha, not scared just not stupid when you get in a boat you never have run you got to take it out and baby it:evilb: FEEL IT be part of the boat once you know the boat you can hang it out to dry :evilb: like I did with my baja I knew what it could do in turns and how to out run the chinewalk did not have full steering like the saber will so there should be a big different there. at mid 80s my arm was moving so fast you could not see my watch:eek:. nope I am just trying to keep myseft in check, otherwise after the motor warms up it will be wide open which is wrong, Thats why I want Dean to come out and adjust the carbs:evilb: cause he will nail it haha. john just trying to be nice. I might need a bigger gas tank on line it says only 90 gals, which ain't much for a 1100hp motor
