Post What to do next??????

I haven't posted anything in a while, so I thought,,, Hmmmm, what the HELL!!!

Alright Scarab owners, its time to buy some new stuff for the boat. Here's a run down of things I have already done.

1.502mpi, HP crane gold roller rockers, zero gap rings on pistons. Blue metallic powder coated intake, pulleys, valve covers.
2. Whipplesupercharger
3. Stainless marine exhaust with 17" extended pipes.
4. Sea strainer
5. New IMCO full hydraulic steering system.
6. New Bravo 1 outdrive.
7. Altec CD player with remote, 2-12'subs,4-100 watt Polk audio speakers, 2 amps
8.New 2002 gauge panels and new gaffrig gauges with GPS speedo going on this weekend.
9. Mirrored Plexiglass in engine bay next.

My job was real good to me over the last couple of years!!
I'm not ready to trade it on a bigger one just yet, so what can I do next??

Thanks for the help!!!

P.S. I'm sure someone with another type of boat is going to make some type of comment, but Hey, Ain't nothing but water on a ducks back!!!

Shawn

Oh yea! Blue metallic bezels for the gauges to match the steering wheel.

How about a extention box and an Imco shorty
lower ? It should be worth a few MPH on that boat.
I know that is what I'm saving my pennies for.
What kind of speed are you getting ?

26scarab,

I was told by my mechanic that extension box would not be any help due to the fact I don't have a step in the hull.

As far as speed goes. I just got past the break in hours needed to start dialing it in. I had it over propped to keep the RPM down. I haven't turned it past 4700rpm.

I just got the right prop to start dialing it in this past week. I'm hoping for close to 80's once its all said and done!!

I'm not sure about the IMCO shorty. I'll have to get some more info for that answer.

29Scarab,
I disagree with your mechanic on the extention box.
Step or no step it shouldn't matter. X- dim is the reason for a box. On my boat I have a very conservative x dim , which causes the boat to sit heavy in the water , and also requires me to run alot of trim to get the boat to top speed. Now with a box it raises the x and also creates more leverage to carry the bow of the boat higher resulting in higher top speeds with less trim .
I'm currently making 670-675hp and the boat is only running 80(GPS) with 18% slip. Added the box hopefully will get me aroun 12% slip and 84-85.

It sounds like you will have an awesome running boat when you get it dialed in.
Good luck !

26scarab will the X be higher with just the box or are you adding the imco shorty too?I'm thinking about the imco's too, the factory said that I can use the 2" shorter no problem, can I get the same results with a box? and leave the lowers alone?and if so do you know the cost involved with extension boxes?

26scarab,

Just got off the phone with my mechanic about this one. He reminded me about the time we talked about it and it was my old mechanic shop that said that. He said it would definitely help my boat. He aid it would at least give 4 to 5 miles an hour more speed.

Hey, you were right! It does pay to listen to board members! Thanks

Only one minor problem. To do all the work and all the parts needed. He said it was going to cost about 6000.00 to do the whole job. Said it was 4500 just in parts. Extension box, drive shaft, wing plate for hydraulic cylinders, and labor.

Now ....the big question is......do I stop here, or do I just start saving money for a bigger boat?????

Decisions......Decisions!!!

Dyno,
to answer your question , I plan on using a
neutral set back and a 2" shorter lower. I could use the 3" higher box but then I would have to raise the engine and I don't want to do that.

29scarab,
Dude you need to start doing the stuff yourself... that way you can save some cash.
I'm in the same boat as you, stop spending money on current boat or save for a bigger one. The way I see it is I can have a badass 26 foot boat that runs 80's and is alot of fun or spend a ton of cash to buy a 30-33 ft boat that will be all stock and no fun. The bigger the boat the faster it has to go. If I own a 30-33 ft boat it should run mid 90's and there is know way I can afford that now or ever. I don't know if I want to spend that kind of money on a toy.
