Hello--Just finished my first season with my Scarab 111--I love it!!! The weight, speed--and comfort--Nice boat. TRS drives are terrific if maintained properly. It's an 86 with 454's.

Dave, I am caught between the scarab and the 39ft stinger. I found one of each, both in deplorable condition but I dont mind the work. problem is, I know NOTHING about outdrives, always been an outboard guy..until the girfriend wanted a galley and bathroom. Both boats, need TRS outdrives. so I am damned if I do damned if I dont. Is there an upgrade for these trs's? are they expensive? Give me some goodz...!

Dave-

I have done quite a bit of research on TRS drives, both the boat I had and the boat I have now have them- they hold up pretty well as long as you service them often, everyone says parts are getting hard to get but the only problem I have had is getting the case(lower unit) when one of mine grenaded. 3K just for the lower unit.(ouch) You can upgrade with Konrads but they don't give those away either. A lot of people on here still have TRS drives-hope this helps.

Dave:

When you inquired about our 39' Stinger project for sale, I told you all about the TRS drives. Given the horsepower and torque of the stock 454/400 Cyclones, the TRS drives should be bulletproof. There is no sense in replacing them with Bravos at this stage of the game, because there are other variables, i.e. engine placement, etc., and especially Bravo III's as you mentioned, which are not appropriate for this type of boat. The only logical replacement drive for the TRS is a Konrad, and they will run almost $20k for the pair last time I checked. With that in mind, I don't think they are in your price range considering you were supposedly shuffling money around, sending me a deposit and picking the boat up this past weekend. I spent an awful lot of time discussing this boat with you and for a change I'm just left hanging.
