scottie150 - You have done such an incredible job on that boat. It's amazing. I love it. I hope you can enjoy it soon out there. Good luck.

scarab31 05-30-2008 09:27 PM

Scottie150, where did you buy your rub rail from?

Thanks- its taken so long I probably won't be able to afford to start it when I get it done!:D

Alan Ray is awesome to work with- I told him what I wanted and he shipped it to me. If you are thinking about doing it make sure you have about 3 friends handy with a lot of beer- its a real pain in the a$$ to do.

I am continuing on the going backwards theme with my boat- I stripped all the wiring and gutted the engine compartment with exception to the gimbals and steering cable. And here is a question for all you experts out there(eddie)- in the engine compartment at the bottom of the bilge running forward next to the lower fuel tank are some heavy guage wires that looked like they were hooked to the battery, any idea what these are for? I have no idea- anyone?

pics from today- the first one is the dash with my shifter installed- the second one is the bilge- in process of stripping all the components so I can paint.

These are the bilge after its stripped. Hopefully this week I will get some time to prep- I am going to find someone in town to do some fiberglass work, since I got it back down this far I might as well get it fixed the right way.

jaxx 30 06-01-2008 11:18 PM

I think you will be happier in the long run if you just get things done right the first time. Your project is unbeliveable. I get bummed about trim rams while you are doing a full-on resto. Can I borrow some of your patience? That bilge is going to be so pretty after you get it done!!!

scottie150 06-01-2008 11:42 PM

Around here its hard to find anyone to do the work- thats why I have ended up doing a lot of it myself. I have zero patience, thats why I bought another boat last year!!:evilb:

I can't tell from your pictures what wires your talking about.

scarabfun 06-02-2008 09:33 PM

i know mine had wires that went under the back seat to jump or hookup a charger to if your batt's went dead so u can run open the hatch. ps. scottie150, your this far so check your cork gasket on the transom assembly's, easy to do now, or should i say easyer, nows the time while everything is out. did mine, not a big deal.

Mine is so old it didn't have a hydraulic ram for the hatch- the hatches were manual- so I doubt they are for that. Possibly they are for something in the cabin- they go that way- but they seem pretty heavy just for lights. I shot a better photo of them but I forgot the camera at the shop so I will upload them tomorrow.

Scarabfun- thanks for mentioning the cork gasket- but like I said I am on my going backwards plan so I already did those a couple of years ago- are you redoing your boat too?:boat:

scarabfun 06-03-2008 08:32 PM

yep , went through everything back there this year, engines, rebuilt the transom assembly's, added imco full hydrolic steering. still cheaper than a new boat & probably better built. quite the project over the winter, just got the engines in this past weekend so have her going soon. the weather is still crap here so not a real big issue.

Hey nice trannies!:D Like the boat too! Looks like yours was pretty nice to begin with.

Here are a few shots of the wires I am talking about-

Westcoast 06-03-2008 09:51 PM

The only thing that you would need cable that big for is a large amp, or a windless. Or maybe a fridge. My boat had none of that sh it so I can't tell you what those are for.

Mine has a space for a fridge- but no fridge and no wiring where the fridge would go. No windless, no amp. Hate to cut it out because it runs under the boat and sure as sh!t it will be something I need. How the hel! do you boat guys work on stuff- just getting the right parts is a real chore- my guys whine if we don't have something in stock and we have to order something!:D

scarabfun 06-04-2008 08:44 PM

got me on the wires.. i ran 71-72 last year @ 5000rpm, added more cam so shooting for 5300 or 5500 rpm. 24p cleaver style props, they were reworked so prob more like 26's or so. not planning on a reprop so all things the same i'm very interested to see the top speed. should be 74-75 if my calculations are right, i'll let u guy's know.

Kims 06-05-2008 02:01 AM

If a battery charger is placed forward of the engine compartment (which was the only way...) those wires would be for that. I have a complete wiring schematic that I made for my rebuild, USCG approved and with triple instalation, six batteries, and an unreal charging system where you can read what you have left on your batteries as well as what was charged. Let me know if you want it...

Kim !

It could have been for a charger...My charger was under my back seat but I could see someone installing a charger in the cabin.

scottie150 06-06-2008 07:17 PM

Got the bilge painted today- took some photos and I will try to post them later if I get a chance.:evilb:

I have a Center Console 34' SS and placed my Xantrex Charger/Inverter in the CC due to cooling issues as well as water issues. In order to do that I needed 2AWG cables from the back (where the charging relays and the batteries are located) to the Xantrex.

I have posted several.... Here is one:

And another...

Like many others I bought this one as a wreck and did ALL the resto myself. It has been a ton of fun and I realize I will never get 100% done, and that is part of the fun. Next project is to get my outer engines lifted out of the water so I can gain a few MPH... Goal is 88MPH but I have lots to do before I'm there... Lots of fun too...:D

Kims- once again very nice. I like everything you have done to your boat.

Here are the updated pics of the bilge- (Thanks Eric!!:D) I think it came out way better than I expected- updates the boat into this century in my opinion.

So if everything goes well this weekend I will start to put stuff back together instead of tearing apart, so hopefully I will have something more to look at.

Westcoast- quit messing around with silly things like moving and get your a$$ up here and help me!:D:D:D

That looks awesome Scott. had to laugh when I saw your switch panels though, here is mine and keep in mind I designed them myself, transferred the files and had them watercut, powdercoated, and laser engraved... Maybe that designer guy at Eddies and I went to the same school..:D

And why wasn't I invited??, just had a week off and except for firing off a few rounds I was just hanging. We got some family up in your neck of the woods and a day fixing boat would be an awesome getaway....

Its a open invitation- if you like anything to do with powersports (dirt bikes, atv's, streetbikes, watercraft, snowmobiles) I have a pretty good connection- but thats my problem, I play too much!!!:circle:

The only issue is after looking at your boat- I don't know if I can afford to take it to your level!!!!:D

jaxx 30 06-13-2008 11:25 PM

That bilge looks great! As far as switches go, I'll have to settle for the "used" look. Kims dash plates look beyond professional.

First off, thanks for the invite. We might just take you up on that. Just got into town here and it is 111 degrees (and I hate 30 of them...).

My level is not so high yet. You have painted the boat and all, mine has not been painted in years and it is needed. Yeah, I might have put a little thought to my electrical and mechanical setup, but I am more than willing to shear experience and you will find out it is not all that much money when you know where to buy and what to buy.

Sounds cool with toys, I kinda put that on the shelf for a few years after I stopped racing professionally with those street bikes. Wifey loves them and yeah, it is fun now and then to play again...

Keep up the good work on your scarab, it looks awesome and I am sure with a little thinking before doing during installation of those engines it will be one h#ll of a boat!

Go to e-machine.com and design your dashpanels with their very easy to use CAD program. Have them cut it for you with a waterjet. Then ship it to you and you go to a local shop for powdercoating. My kind of switches are between $5,- and $15,- a piece. Add a few $$ for wiring and then compare to a dash done any other way. You will be surprized, it is not hard to do and it is not all that expensive, while it looks good and it will look good for years...

Thanks for the compliment though...

scottie150 06-15-2008 11:48 PM

So I got the trim tab pump in today, basically started over with a new pump, wiring and all the hydraulic lines. Also got one of the trim pumps in and rerigged all the lines. I am trying to focus only on one system at a time- before I get overwhelmed! Tomorrow hopefully will be the other side (trim pump)if the weather holds. I will shoot some photos tomorrow when I have something to look at.:party-smiley-004:
