wheel61 welcome. I think you will enjoy the 28' scarab. I have loved mine. I am in the process of a total restore now. I should have some pics of the new paint in a week or two. The paint is going to resemble the V24 boat on the adrenalinepowerboats website. good luck with yours. :drink:

Re: new member- 28 foot scarab
thanks to everyone. we are anxiously awaiting the arrival. there are some legalities to be cleared up as my buddy died of an anurysm during the deal and the boat was at the shop getting the motor replaced because it had a cracked block. it has been an unfortunate turn of events. but my buddy lost interest in the boat and was thrilled at our excitement when we decided to cut a deal. i think he would of damn near gave us the boat when he saw my kids excitement when they were climbing around on it. unfortunately the motor had a cracked block. so he said he would fix it and still do the deal or not it was up to me. one week later he fell over dead at 42 years old. so as a tribute to jimmy we will sieze the day and enjoy every minute on the scarab. i have several questions about the boat but thought i would wait till i have it in my possession. it looks very similar to the pictures of the 1988's but the swim platform is not integrated and is missing in action. it will be the first order of business(so says the kids). hopefully we should have it within a week or two. this forum is great.

Re: new member- 28 foot scarab
oh yeah, the 20 ft jon with the merc150 and tiller handle is as wild as you want. we have taken it 3 miles out in the ocean, 150 miles up the mississippi and illinois rivers and even loto. when we were at loto in aug 05 we had a great time mostly taking a ride to a cove and swimming all day. and thats when it hit my kids, tyler 11, hannah 7, and mallory 4. daddy why can't you get a boat with a cuddy and makes that noise. i really ruined them taking them there. they were amazed when i told them me and their mon used to live here and were actually married on a golf course overlooking the lake. the first question was why did you move? every since i was 18 i wanted a scarab. i almost have one know.

Re: new member- 28 foot scarab
Sorry to hear about your friend. But that is a great story about your kids catching the "bug". I remember when I was 12 or 13 and my dad and I were taking out my 13' Boston Whaler, and saw my first performance boat putting in right next to us. When he started the engines the hair stood up on my arms. As a matter of fact, it still does even when starting my own now. It is just something about that first few seconds after a nice throaty V8 starts that gets me.
Anyway, Let me know if I can help with any pictures/dimensions of the swim platform for your boat. |
Re: new member- 28 foot scarab
i finally have possession of the boat. can hardly wait to take er out. the dealer who redid the motor thought i ought to wait till around easter to run it so i would be safe from cold weather. don't want anymore of those troubles as the last one costed $6880. thankfully as agreed it was deducted from the price. i will take some pictures tomorrow and measure the length. the title says its an 87 28ft scarab. it currently has no swim platform. the paint needs rubbed out but all in all i think i have a great boat.

Re: new member- 28 foot scarab
the boats actual length is 26 ft. it doesn't have a swim platform on it right now. it is an 87. it must be a 26 exel. i'm gonna try to post a few pics if i can figure it out. evidentlt i can't. file size too large.

Re: new member- 28 foot scarab
Thats great news about your boat being back in action.
One more excell in the mix. I never realized how many excells there were until I signed up here. I don't remember seeing any on the Hudson River where I go cruisin. Was your motor rebuilt , new, worked ? |
Re: new member- 28 foot scarab
My buddy's 22ft. had a platform thatlooked integrated, but it was a fiberglass platform that was bolted and caulked on. He took it off for appearance reasons. It was cracking, I did some glass work on it, but after having it off, he decided to leave it off. If you can't find the original platform(if it had one) try the back of Powerboat or Hot Boat magzine. You can have an aftermarket aluminum tube platform made. My friend had one done for his Thunder. Very nice piece.
