i just discovered this forum and love it. i am in the process of buying a 1987 28 foot scarab. this is my first big boat. i also have a 20 ft jonboat with a mercury 150 with a tiller handle on it. but will soon be parting with it. we live on a large lake in southern illinois and make several trips to lake of the ozarks a year. the wife and kids finally broke me down to buy a nice boat. i was in the process of buying the boat in august 05 from a friend. he had not run it in over a year. when i took it out it ran fantastic but there was water in the oil and unfortunately the block was cracked. it has a 454 mag and bravo one. while the boat was in the shop getting the motor replaced my good friend died suddenly of an anurysm. very sad and tragic to say the least as he was only 42 years old. now the boat is finished and i am woking out the details with his brother who is also a good friend. i have not seen a boat like this and can find little info on it. the title reads 1987 28 ft wellcraft scarab. the swim platform is not built in and is currently missing in action though i have to have one per family. does any one know of this particular year and model any info and insight would be greatly appreciated. we can hardly contain ourselves with excitement about the upcoming boating season even though it has just snowed heavily today. thanks to any and all who respond.

Welcome to OSO.....great news about you getting a bigger boat....be careful, the desire for a bigger boat never ends.
In high performace boating, the best thing to always remember, is to use your own common sense.
Enjoy the time on your boat and with your family...it passes so quickly....good luck with your new boat.

Welcome to the board . Sorry to hear about your friend.
Post some photos of the boat. I thought 1987 28' had a integrated platform. I could be Wong. If I am right you might have a old race hull . Puder .on the board has a 1987 28' Check with him about parts.
I and a few others here have 88-90 28' They are a bit different. I will post some photos later
good luck with her

Welcome to the board. Top Bananna is right... bigger, faster it never ends!
I just sold my second boat and looking for my 3rd. I was looking at a 1988 28 scarab today in fact. I think I need 30-38 tho. Depends on the deal... I need a good one.
I bet the 20ft jonboat was a riot w/a 150 on it
