Your gauge holes must have been drilled slightly farther apart. Mine must be just a hair closer 'cause where yours are almost touching, mine were overlapping.

no. no tabs. with the dual ram and the 4 blade cleaver intimidator (slighlty cupped back egdes) you get great control. its a light boat with tons of power. it plains quick and holds nicely at speed. i get huge air and don't want to worry about whether the tabs are even at re- entry. check out the pics at my gallery. big k-planes may give you a little better top speed (1 or 2 mph), but a top rate set up is big bucks and not a huge bang. i've been through alot with this boat over the last 8 years and think i have finally got it dialed in perfect for my use. now i am just hoping that it will stay together for awhile.

all those dashes look great just gotta decide what to do with mine now lol. That boat with the chief 575 just says 94 mph boat in general I think because i googled 26 scarab and found a sight that said some race team had the 26 hull completely gutted etc and it ran 94 but i dont remember what the engine was maybe thats where the seller is coming up with that 94 mph info

That would be me. You're right it is nowhere close to 94. In fact the best I have seen is 65. Since I bought it I've only had it out twice and my copilot gets scared easily so I'm not sure what it will end up doing. I knew 94 was BS when I bought it but didn't really care, it's a nice solid boat and for 29k I think the price was right. I've been waiting until I get more time in it before I start talking and asking questions.

Ok, now you've got me wondering. How fast do you think my boat should go if set up and propped correctly?
575hp Chief (dyno shows 582hp)

Jay,
In my opinion the shorty isn't doing you any good, not without an extention box. I tried one and lost MPH but gained a really cool rooster tail .
If that motor is truly making 582hp , I'd guess you would see mid 70's.

Where were you when my boat was for sale this summer ?!?! :drink:

i think 26scarab is right about the shorty and the speed estimate. after you go through enough mods ( good and bad) there seems to be a constant. the scarab 26 with around 600 hp and 4 blabe 24-25 pitch at 5300- 5600 rpm = approx 75mph. its nice to see that you guys have gone and are still going through the same torture. ahhhh...but doesn't it feel good.

Hot for teacher we have the same boat excepet for power mine is a bone stock 502 with a procharger, not sure exactly what the horsepower is but i know with 4 people 1/2-3/4 tank of gas i ran 74 on gps and that was with a 4 blade prop, the guy i bought it from said it is a custom made 24.5 but it is stamped 26.2

What would I have to shell out for an extention box?
As far as your boat this summer, that was probably before I found this forum. And besides mine was easy, it was in my town already and they took my Corvette in on trade.

Re: Anyone else with a 26' Scarab

I have run all the numbers before , extention box, steering (need full hyd. ), brackets, etc. it's been a while but I think it was around $3500-4000 by the time your done. I could be off and if you find stuff used I'm sure it could be less.
Then another thing is do you use a Stellings which requires a solid jackshaft with u joints from the flywheel to the drive, no more coupler which absorbs some shock and helps keep the drive from breaking.
Or go the Imco route with the torsional shaft which does help save drives , only thing with this is if you go with an offset box (no reason to go with a neutral) you will have to raise the motor. Didn't want to do that.
At that point I decided that I was done with trying to make the boat go faster, I had attained my goal of 80 and didn't want to spend anymore money in this project. If I want to go faster it will be in a different boat.

Been looking at props lately, currently running a 23p mirage, stock 502. Noticing that a lot of the descriptions on mfg's websites mention props working better for hulls having or not having "good natural bow lift". Do our boats have good natural lift? I have been looking at hydromotive 4 blades and mercruiser bravo 1 4 blades... anyone have thoughts or opinions??? Or what about a custom 3blade? Read somewhere that a good 3 blade is better for top end.

Hi guys..
I have just bought a 87 Scarab Excel with 350 Mag, and the boat is being updated this winter. Rebuilt engine, and new electrical system.

Anyone else with similar boat?

Regards Fr@nk

I've found with the stock 502efi that the 25pitch worked best. I'm currently running a Bravo1 4 blade, but I notice alot more side torque because of the narrow hull. Especially when getting out of the throttle coming to a NO WAKE area. I've been looking for a used 25p at the right price. Both the props were bone stockwhen I tried them, butI'm hoping a few tweaks at the prop at the propshop should help.

Hows everybodies winter? Sucks down here in Louisiana where its usually nice and warm yr round but not this year. I was wondering if anyone was knowledgeble on the hull of the 26 scarab, what the degree of the V is and an explination of a pad and does this boat have one.

Mine is a 1996 26 scarab with a 800efi. It put 87mph on gps with a 4 blade 32@5200rpm. Pic/Engines ad (555CID/800EFI RELIABLE MONSTER FITS UNDER HATCH) This is under the hatch of the 26 scarab.

You're cold? I'm in Chicago waiting to watch my Bears win the Suiper Bowl in -1 degree temps.
No pad on the scarab. It' usually a flat spot at the back of the hull that the boat runs on at speed(picture a flat triangle pointing forward). The deadrise is 23 degrees, dry weight 4800lbs., 80 gal tank, 8ft. beam, and most importantly bridge clearance is 4'10".wq

i need a good home for my boat. it is with great sadness that i look for someone to treat her with the same love. i'm asking good money, but that is a drop in the bucket compared to what i've spent and what it would take to buy the new equivilent.
