Ours is a '94 with twins, 250hp/ea, Alpha drives, Mirage 23 props. I think this was the last year before Wellcraft went to EFI Mercrusers in the 29's. Ours has carburetors.

We show 68 on speedo and I've carried the GPS twice and never saw anything over 65.

Another later model 29 on the lake is claiming 70 on GPS but I have my doubts.

I have the EFI 350's and the speedo is pretty close and i've seen 71 on it but gps may only be 69 or 70 I would like to build the motors to 400 or 450 hp I was wondering if any one else has done anything like this and what results they got

Another place to pick up some speed on the 29s is to take the stops out of the trim tab rams, if they are K-planes, so they fully retract and also grind out the wedge in the bottom by the outer strake. Both cause the boat to run wetter than it needs to be.

68 is a typical best speed for a 29 with injected 350 mags. Procharge it if you want to go faster, it is the best bang for the buck.

I have a 94 and have seen a hook in the hull on some , mine has no hook. My buds 96 has the hook. Guess this is the wedge that scarabman is talking about. Anyway , mine runs low 60's carb 350 mags and alphas (1.47) , 23p laser 2's. My buds with the hook runs high 60's , 350 mag mpi's , bravos , 23p mirage plus's . tssteph had I think the nicest looking one out there and rigged with the pro chargers I would have liked to go for a ride!

Thanks, mine had every option on it. I was sad to see it sell. The buyer has not picked it up yet. One thing I won't miss is how tight the engine compartment is. Other then that they are awesome boats for the money. Mine had the hook but not much. It responded to trim very well and carried the nose easily. Was a handfull in the 70-75 mph range but calmed down above that. bravo 1 props made the boat more stable then Mirage plus props.
