Has anyone used shorty lowers or standoff boxes with any luck?

I know of 2 different guys who have run into the triple digits with 33s and both did it with shorties on standoff boxes. Of course they had big power as well. Both 700+ as I recall. I also talked to a guy local to me who put 2" shorties on his with stock 525SCs and said that it ran like a bag of $h!t. Dont know his qualifications though.
