shortened drives

anyone tried short drives on a 31' Excel?thinking of imco or the like or is this a mad idea kind of wondering if anyone else ever tried it?

With the older, heavier scarabs, does shortening the drives effectively raise the x-dimension??

I have a 92 34 SCARAB and I installed IMCO 2 inch shorties.
I gained about 2 MPH but the handling improved drastically.
The boat now flies flat.
