Hello to all. After a looooonnnggggg time of being boatless I, along with my brother Clint, have jumped back into the HP boating world head first. We closed the deal yesterday on a 1996 38' Scarab!!!!
The boat has twin Merc. 500 HP's (aftermarket springs and exhaust), pre lubers with timers on both engines, bravo one drives (150 hours) w/ showers, spinning 4 blade Bravo 1 24p props, 280 Kplanes, Gaffrig gauges, Kiekhaefer controls, Garmin GPS, AC, fridge, Extreme Marine swim platform, bow cover and cockpit cover, like new bimini, and beautiful shiny gel coat all the way around. We are not picking it up until the first week of November. So I will be counting the days until then.......Heres a couple of pics... |
You sure did go back into the HP boating world head first.Beautiful 38 Scarab!!!
Where'd you find the boat? More pics please.....like to see the interior. |
Looks beautiful! Congrats!
I'm supposed to pick mine up tomorrow, can hardly wait. -Andrew |

Thanks guys!!! My brother Clint (Handicrap) and I found the boat here on OSO in the classifieds. It was only on here for a couple of weeks when we spotted it.
We have been looking for about 3 to 4 months now and when I saw this one I new we needed to jump on it fast. I have seen boats like this sell in less then a week. The price was right and Ed Cozzi gave it a clean bill of health. November 8th can't come soon enough!!! I only have a few pics so here is a few more....enjoy.:ernaehrung004: Chuck |

A couple more.....

That thing looks almost like new.... regardless of the year. Some of the best colors I've seen on a Scarab. Congrats!
|
tight ride dude thats my idea of diving in!!!!:cool-smiley-011:
 |
Thanks guys. I will have to say that we didn't even look at to many Scarabs because all the older models that we were seeing had some really "less then eye catching" colors. :p
I just happened to be going over the classifieds for like the 497514th time and it caught my eye. I called my bro and we both agreed that this was a very sharp looking ride. I made some calls and next thing you know it now belongs to us...Now come on November!!!!!:party-smiley-048: I WANT TO GO BOATING!!!:cool-smiley-026: |
looks great have fun flying it ,i seen it up 4 sale and thought to my self what a nice boat ,great color combo
|
Sweet boat. Great luck with her !!!
|
Yeah good one guys. Well done. That caught my eye also in the classifieds. Very appealling price, motivated seller. I just couldn't get to the States in time. So all the best with it. I noted a thread posted earlier on it & some mentioned long hours on the motors for 500s. How did they check out? Compression, etc. ok?
|
Thanks for the comments jez350. We had Ed Cozzi do the survey and he also did a sea trial. We had it set up to do a compression check but after Ed ran it on the trial he said he didn't even need to do the compression check.
He said those engines are really strong and they put that 38' beast on plane in no time and they pulled all the way up to 5000 rpms with no problem. He told me it would have been a waste of money to do a comp. check and when Ed Cozzi says they are good....they are good. We are planning to change out the cams and get some head work done on the 500s next year sometime. We would like to get them up to about 600-650hp, but for now we are just going to get used to handling the boat and have a ton of fun with her.:D Take care, Chuck |
What part of FL is it in?
|
It is in the Naples area.

Sweet looking boat!
Welcome to the scarab club! :ernaehrung004: |
Does anyone on here know how much fuel each tank holds on the 1996 38' Scarabs? It has 3 seperate fuel tanks and the overall capacity is 194 gallons but I don't see in the owners manual any info on how much each tank holds. Thanks.
Chuck |
anyone???
|
I dunno I just wish I bought it!! Damn!!
|
Don't sweat it Jez. We will be looking to upgrade in a couple years... You will be the first to know when we do....:D

Thanks SLOWOUTBOARD.... I did contact him and he said his has two 50 gal. wing tanks and a 100 gal. in the center in case anybody else needs to know.
Thanks for the help guys, Chuck |
Check that again. I believe the main tank is closer to 150 and the side tanks are around 25 each. I am just getting my boat together and put about 20 gallons each and it is showing 3/4 of a tank. Mike
|
Mine holds 20 gal. each in the saddle tanks
and approx. 150 gal. in the center tank. |
Also mine has a 4th tank under the seat that holds another 50 gal. Of course I could have a 100 gallons of gas last 3-4 trips to the river with the driving I did on my last boat (31' Scarab). So that 50 gallons is important:Whatever: . Mike
|
Thanks Mike. I think you are probably the closest to the actual capacity. I found it really crappy that the tech at Wellcraft couldn't even give me te exact figures. I gave him the hull ID # and he knew everything about this particular boat except how much each tank held...
The best thing he said to do was to check the inspection plates that are on the tanks. I guess I will go that route when we get the boat in our possesion. At least I have a basic idea now. Thanks again guys for all the input. Chuck |
gotta like big azz Scarabs !!!.....thumbs up!
|
Captnchuck..... you actually got Wellcraft to talk to you about your boat? I remember when I called them about my Scarab they didn't know anything and could not help me on any parts. Maybe Wellcraft hired someone who knew where the records and things like that are.
|
I called and asked to speak to a tech and they put a gentleman on the phone. I gave him the HIN and he pulled it up in less than a minute. He told me everything about the boat. He knew everything about it. He even knew the date on which the boat was purchased.:D He told me things about it that the seller didn't even know.
I called this number.... 1800-755-1099. I want to say the guys name was Ron but don't hold me to it. Good luck bro, Chuck |
Capt chuky...Just for the record, I told you each side tank is 25 gallons, and the main center tank is 150gallons. You can only run on one tank at a time. The fuel manifold will not evenly draw from all tanks if more then one valve is open.
good luck. No boat rides as nice as a 38' Scarab! |
