Default 38' Stepped Hull

Does anyone know the first year Scarab stepped the hull on the 38. And, how does it handle. Thanks.

'99 was the first year. Great hull from what I hear, a little bit slippery in turns but gets up on the plane much faster than the old straight bottoms.

Actually, 98. the AVS Scarab hulls were built by Wellcraft 98-2002. 2002 is the year that wellcraft terminated its liscensing agreement with Larry Smith. Team Scarab ( Larry Smith) built a few step bottom boats for racing prior to the release to the general public in 98.

The 1st 38 Scarab with twin steps was built before my time with Team Scarab, It is now the Pennsoll boat, It was owned
by Rudy Ramos (RaysonCraft) built in the early 80s I beleive.

I have a 1999 38' AVS which is fantastic. It's a great boat that planes quickly and can handle rough water. Enjoy!

Not that any 38' boat is built for drag racing but my non-stepped 1998 38' pops up on a plane with superchilled 575sci motors and labbed 26"s'(bravo 1)waaaay faster than my 31' w/502s' and 25"s'(mirage)
