Default 1978 30ft With twin o/b

Does anybody know what model this is, I am told by the owner it is a Larry Smith 30ft that was built for Mickey Thompson and after his death was sold to a friend of the family and then he bought it all stock in 2003 and spent 75k on the restore. I have never seen this top deck before PLEASE HELP I would like to buy this boat. Regards Frank

In the late 1970's early 80's there was a green raceboat with the same deck, "Triple Threat". It was powered by triple Merc outboards.

Looks nice. Tell us about the engines. What are they? What year? That will make a difference in what it's worth.

They are 1989 2.5 offshores with new powerheads and rebuilt lowers in 2003 with 94 hours, the entire boat was redone in 2003 with a new trailer also. The guy wants 30k for it, he spent over 70k on all new int, gel, stereo, engs, rigging, gauges,so that is only 94 hours on everything. The only thing I dont like is the top deck I think it looks strange. He also said he had it on gps at 82 miles per hour does that seem right? Thank you Frank

I think 30K is a good starting point. See if he'll take a little less.

Merc did not make 2.5's in 89. The 2.5's came out in 1993. Maybe they are 2.5 powerheads on old 2.4 mids and lowers? I'm no expert on that type of thing, so maybe a direct bolt on is possible.

I think 82 mph is a little optimistic...the 03 powerheads should be good for 280 HP(if they are the new 2.5's), so maybe I'm wrong...

I have seen other 29' scarabs like this one. They had small blocks w/trs. It is a cool boat. 30,000 IMO is a little high by a couple of grand. Check out the outboards throughly. Does it have a cabin? Twin outboards run great in certain boats and set up is everything. Test ride how fast. Good luck w/the boat.

So do you guys think it is a 29 or 30FT? I went and look at it today it needs some clean up but it is very nice, he will take me on a test drive b4 I buy. Here are some pictures on how the outboards are setup...looks like a race setup? It has some stress cracks here and there and a few bubble in the gel on the top deck, It has door cut out for the cabin but it not there it still has the wood trim that is molding into the glass (it is paint white) It has two gas tanks one 100 gal. in the middle of the floor and a 75 gal under the hatch and rear seat. The cabin has 2 couches and a bed, with a storage locker under the bed. Let me know what you guys think???? I think I should offer maybe 25K. Frank

Good looking boat, but I dont see 75k in a solid white paint job with blems, two 14 year old out boards and generic interior. I believe he`d be lucky to get 20k
