So now that the boat is all back together I took it to the scales to weigh it? :eek:

2007 avalanche, 30' scarab with big blocks, tri-axle alum trailer, and 40 gallons of gas.......15780 lbs.

Just boat and trailer........9540 lbs.

Guess it's time for a 2500 series pickup :(

I thought I read somewhere that these boats weighed somewhere around 8000lbs dry. I believe there was a just a discussion that the Panthers were 6400lbs. Kevlar boats right?
I tow mine with a 3/4 ton truck and can't imagine what it would be like with something lighter. I also don't have an aluminum trailer though.

My Panther is fiberglass and I believe it to be 6400 dry. I pull it with my GMC 1500, Aluminum trailer @ 12.7mpg.

So i don't get it, how does a panther only weigh 6400 dry, be fiberglass and look identical to mine, where is mine carrying the extra 1600 lbs?

I believed that my Panther weighed the advertised 6400 dry. I do not believe that my boat weighs much less than yours, if any at all. I have no Idea what my trailer weighs 2000lb?? 400 in gas 120 in batteries interior and misc crap. I do not believe it to be a light boat. :)

There not called wave crushers for nothing! Is that hatch custom or did the panthers come with a single hatch that is hinged from the rear?

Looking right at an 84 catalog, 6400lbs. Fuel capacity 150 gal, water capacity 8 gal. If your boat and trailer weighed in at 9450 I would question how much fuel and water on board, AND the weight of the trailer, plus the accuracy of the scales, and if the trailer was still hitched to the truck, it would seem that depending on the tongue weight setup some of that weight might be transferred back to the boat and trailer.
Plus any incidentals that might be on board the boat.
Also big blocks were the standard option that year, not small blocks so 6400 would be the weight with big blocks.
And I just read the restoration thread, you are my new hero, magnificent job!

Rookie, I don't know how yours is equipped, but from what I understand most Panthers didn't have pumpout heads, frigerators, etc. They generally had sparse cabins with few amenities. It's easy to drop quite a few hundred pounds when you're chucking things out of the cabin.

Also, is the beam of the Panther less than the beam of the reg. 30' Scarab?

i agree , the 6400 is dry weight !!
