The crashed LOTO one is still sitting in a parking lot here in Bloomington, IL. If anyone is curious what hull number it is I can get it. Shame it has sat uncovered all this time. Lots of parts could have been salvaged from it.

Blackhawks are awesome drives
Hey guys,
I had to interject after looking at some of the posts in this thread about having some problems with BlackHawk drives. To tell you the truth, the Hawks on my P-29 performed better than any drive out there - I put them to the test in every Poker Run - ran across ACTUAL 3-4 footers on Winnebago at 75 plus on top all day. I smoked one drive because I picked up some fishing line and it took out the bottom seal. Beyond that, they were flawless. The Black Hawk is a surface drive so you do not need to trim it much to lift the hull. The P-29 runs flat, comes out flat, and comes back in flat - a racer's dream. Mercury had a great drive that should have been in production for many more years, but there were not many hulls that responded to the Hawk at that time. Donzi, Wellcraft, and Eliminator had some hulls that worked great with the Hawk, but the P-29 was the best combination. How many 29 foot V hulls with small blocks run just under 80 ? Can't think of one to this day! I still run a Hawk on a Hustler / Talon Cat. Dialing it in this week - should run around a buck 20. Don't ever let anyone tell you that Black Hawks are junk. They were way ahead of there time and have components that are used today in many of the Bravo Series drives. If anyone out there has questions about Black Hawks feel free to 2give me a call. Been lovin' the drives for 12 years. Mark Lee Oshkosh Thunder Poker Run July 10- 11, 2009 920.420.5678 |
I agree with mark, the blackhawk was an excellent drive, I owned his old boat for 2 seasons (#5) and it would run 77 all day. Other twin scarabs with same power and alphas are lucky to flirt with 70. Great boat, great drives. My only beef was fast idle speed (7.5 mph on gps), there was never a time when you threw no wake.
