Guages 'n stuff
Hi all,
I am replacing guages and other stuff on my Scarab. I bought her with Gaffrig guages, can you guys give me any idea what might be a better guage? There's nothing wrong with the ones I have, just old and I'd like to replace them. I'm also looking at replacing the throttle/transmision handles and probably the cables as well. Also, on the wind deflector the majority of the gelcoat is or has cracked off. Any suggestions on how to fix this? I was going to remove it all and just paint the aluminum substraight white. I'm also thinking of removing the current graffics and updating those also. I'd like to get a list of popular paint strippers from you guys and put one against the other, to see which one removes the paint the best. I'll take pics. and post them so when someone asks again we can have some visual before and after pics. to show them. Anyway, thanks for your time. Sulfur 1 |
As far as the gauges go I have a 33 Scarab and will probably be going with the Auto meters because they have the larger ring like a monster gauge but fit the dash well.
Thats funny becouse I was just looking at those.
We can get you into Livorsi at an unbelievable price. Email us your list, including sizes, colors etc and see how we compare!!
If you are set on Auto Meter, we can get those also, but get a better price on Livorsi. [email protected] Kirk |
I put the livorsi monster series super rim gauges and shifters and throttles billet racing series and a momo steering wheel in my 29 scarab last year I had to have new dash panels made though they look great. Now this year I put a 5 PSI pro charger on the small blocks with new heads cant wait to run it
trc2,
Were did you get the pro-charger? :D |
Jamie at lake side restoration got them on the end of year sale 4400 each plus I put new heads on to with stainless intake valve and inconal exhaust valves and good head gaskets took the boat out and ran it easy at 3500 rpms I was running 61 gps

You have stock engines or were they modified before you installed the pro-chargers? Sounds like something I may be interested in doing later on down the road.

They were stock engines before I put the pro chargers on and changed the heads

Looking at your pic. of the throttles, I see you used Lavorsi for everything. Are they a better guage than Gaffrig or are they pretty much the same? I have Gaffrig in right now and I want to change or update them. Were they plug-n-play or do I have some wiring to do to change from Gaffrig to Lavorsi?
Thanks, Sulfur1 |

livorsi and graffrig are the same livorsi and gaffrig were partners and livorsi left and started his on line
did you have to pull the engines to install the pro-chargers?

Pulled just one to make it easier to install the pro charger on the port engine
Does or did your boat have the grab rails on the deck? if so, are they still there and if not are they easy to remove?
No mine does not have the grab rails on the bow I would guess if you remove them you will have to do fiberglass repair and then do some painting
Yeah, thats what I was thinking. Too much work involved, I think I'll keep 'em (for now) :D Did you see my question about the guage wiring?
They use all the same wires They hook up the same as the gaffrig
Excellent! Thanks for all the info. I won't bother you anymore...LOL. Do you mind if I PM you once in awhile to ask questions? We have almost the same boat and since your at the stage that I'm shootin' for, I'd like to inquire about things that you have already done. But that will be later down the road.
I dont mind at all PM me any time and ask any question you want and I'll try to answer it the best I can
Does the Livorsi monster gauge have the same outside diameter of a standard gaffrig with a bezel?
standard gauge is 2 1/8 the monster gauge is 2 5/8 I had to have new dash panels made

This is the dash of a 33. Will monster gauges fit by just opening up each hole more.
Your gauges are all most touching with the bezels. You would probably have to do away with the bezels like I did and just do a colored rim
I wouldn't mind it if it would work.
What did you spend on gauges? How much were the throttles? |
Ihave around $3000 in gauges, shifters and steering wheel. Steering wheel I got for 99 dollars shifters were about $1500 and the rest in gauges tachs were about $150 each and I think the gps speedo was $350 Give scott at speed and custom marine in florida a call he has great deals on alot of thing he beat everone one elses price 1-850-875-0381
