SCARABS eat BAHA's in the rough stuff. WE don't need no BAHAHAHAHA talk on this page.
|
They are just mall boats! everybody goes to the mall right??

29scarab
I was looking at 29 Scarabs when I was boat shopping. I decided to spend a little extra and get an actual 29' boat. I realized that no matter how you cut it, a stock 29 Scarab with produciton power will never run as fast as my stock 29 Outlaw with production power. Hell, those twin smalls just don't measure up. If you want to run with the big dogs, you need twin bigs. |
actually a 29 ft boat will probably be faster and handle better with the twin small blocks than with the big blocks due to all the extra weight and the bigger drives. And use a lot less fuel also. And if you want to run with the big dogs why did you buy the 29 your about 6 ft short. And I will put my 34 scarab up against a 35 baja any day in the rough stuff. There isn't even a close comparison in rough water handling. CHECK OUT MY POST ON THE BAJA SITE BASHING SCARABS OH BOY are we gonna have fun now with the BAJA boys. SEE IF THEY CAN KEEP THIS FRIENDLY ---- NOT----
|
Hey Dinkerboater you want to put your 34 scarab up against a 35 baja. Go ahead baja hasn't made a 35 footer for as long as i can remember unless you are talking about the 34.5 foot motoryacht last made in 1995. The bigger drives with the big blocks? Wouldn't you want bravo's in a 29' going 70+ mph in all that rough stuff you run in? Ain't no substitute for cubic inches either. If you can afford the boat you can afford the fuel!
|
Outlaw you obviously don't know about boats! A 29 ft boat doesn't need big blocks to go fast. All that weight on the back of a 29 ft boat will cause adverse effects. And I don't get out my tape measure every time I blow away a BAJA. The point I was making was that a 29 footer isn't a big boat.I would rather have a 540 with 750 hp single in a 29 ft boat than twins. And I like to think that I have more brains than money and I don't want to waste either.:D :D
|
No need to be racist , it's alot more fun when everybody just bashes supercrash
|
GOTTAHAVIT glad to see some of you guys can take as well as dish it out. Yes I do have 502's in the boat but they are carb'd and you guessed it highly TINKERED with ( about 600 hp each)
THE boat is very loaded down with all the stuff to keep my wife happy and still does 75 GPS on flat water - haven't had it out in the rough stuff without my wife (rev limiter) since I did the engines so I don't know what that speed is but I used to gain 5 mph in the rough stuff. And heck yeah I will give YOU a ride anytime. I do like the BAJA's it's just fun to tease you guys sometimes (baja daze started it on our site) MY last boat was a 251 chackmate which is a comperable boat to a baja. I loved the boat just needed bigger. Last year I took it up to hot boat weekend at hardy dam and I emptied all the junk out of the boat and it covered the floor of one of the garage stalls. WHAT A LOT OF JUNK. |
Tinker- what was the name on your old boat and how long did you have it? What is your new boat? Do you run out of Grand Haven? I've been wanting to go up to hardy for the last three years but always have something come up.
The other thing concerning these little sqaubles we have been seeing on this sight; When it gets to that point we all need to take a step back to realize we are all very fortunate in our lives to be associated with a fun group of people that share the same passion. We must all be blessed at some level to afford to enjoy one of the greatest activities that this earth has to offer. Sun, Fun, Speed, Girls, Beer, Music, need I say more. Midnight:cool: |
MIDNIGHT the truth is if you read the thread from the begining you would see that the SCARAB site is way behind on posts compared to the BAJA site so what beter way than to start a little friendly rivalry going on and let the baja people do the posting for us. :D :D :D :D I don't believe in putting a name on my boats but I do go by the name YES DEAR. YES I do run out of GRAND HAVEN most of the time. HOT BOAT weekend is great at HARDY DAM.
MY FIRST BOAT MY SECOND BOAT PRESENT BOAT |
What was your old boat, color, year, and the new. Where do you keep it? And if you want some advice on naming, I'll give you a link to a nautical site that goes into great detail on poisiden (sp?) of the sea and how naming, not naming, and renaming, can bring you good and bad luck. No name is bad luck, and in boating we need all the luck we can get, ecspecially when we tinker with our motors. The fact is, allot of bigger boats to this day are documented , not titled or registered, and the name is of more importance than the vin #. I did not rename my last boat properly, and it gave me several no needed problems. MIdnight

GOOD MORNING TINKER WHERE YOU AT?
LEFT YOU A MESSAGE ON OUR THREAD. |
|
tinkerboater, did you buy that Scarab from WI? I think i remember seeing an exact saqme boat off I-94 right around Kenosha A few years back.....
|
I did buy it from wisconsin but it was 6 years ago. There is one for sale over there now. I bought it on saturday before labor day weekend in 95 and drove it back accrost the lake the first real time in the boat other than the test drive.
And this is the first year that I havn't torn something apart on the thing to make it better. |
I know that Scarab. How long have you had it? Did the guy you sold that Check to put on a windscreen? I think I either know you, or the guy that owns your check now. My boat I had for the past four years in GH was the Baja Midnight Rider. It has since been sold this winter. I will still be carrying the same name on my new boat.
|
I don't think he put on a faring He did put in a big engine though. He lives on gun lake.
|
What's his name? Kurt?

Hey puder, who cares about the Baja Forum, we go for quality, not quantity....and besides that, we have better looking avatars than the Baja boys!! heheh :D
|
Lets be carful not to hurt their Little feelers!!
Me and Wally already went at them one time in a little battle!!! Quality is Right!!! Hell, we always talk about looks and performance over here. We can't help it if we don't break or have parts fall OFF!!!!! :D :D :p |
I thought this was over but perhaps not.
I will be the first to say that I would rather have an older Scarab than an older Baja. But nowadays the opposite is true. Scarab used to be the king of the seas. Now, only a shell remains. Just a couple of years ago they offered about 8-9 models. Now they only offer 4 models and 3 of those 4 models date back to the early 90’s. Most “Scarab Dealers” are merely Wellcraft dealers that tell you “Yeah, we can get you a Scarab if you really want one.” Hell, Scarab's annual production run is probably so low that they can start calling themselves a "custom builder" Baja on the other hand is headed in the exact opposite direction. They probably sink more into R&D now than any other builder out there (selling lots of boats has it’s advantages). Since 1997 they have introduced 14 new models and have 2 more slated for 2003. Scarab may still have a presence in racing but what do they have cooking for the average consumer? I wish someone would buy the Scarab name and bring them back – kind of the way that American Marine Holdings bought Donzi back in 1994. Look how far they have come since then. |
29Outlaw
I think what you said was WELL put!!! I've owned both and voiced my opinion. A little ribbin' never hurt anything. Me and Bajadaze give it to each other every once in a while!!! |

...And don't you forget it! :p :p
:D :D :D ...It's all Good!... |
29scarab, dude, read the last sentence of your post and tell me that doesnt just sound wrong!!!
As for what 29Outlaw said.....my head falls down in dissappointment cause its soo true..... :( Scarab was a name back in the day that was right up there along with Cigarette. Now adays you mention it and people are like....they still make boats? I cant remember them coming out with anything new in a long time now! And its true...someone SHOULD buy the name and bring back the boats. If the quality was there the name alone would help move the boats! :) |
Awww, Man!!  Geez Wally! Way to shed some light on that! :D :D :D
As for 29 and Wally's statements...So true! It's a shame, it really is...You're right wally, back in the hayday The mere mention of the word commanded respect. It's a legacy growing old. :( |
Damn!! I leave for an hour and this thread goes crazy!!
I guess I should of thought about thew comment Wally!! Bajadaze, Dude! Waaaaaaaazup!!! As for the Scarab name!! It has taken a shortcoming on its effort to stay with the legacy it once had!! I hate to say this, but I can't guarantee my next boat will be a Scarab. My next boat due to my traveling, would be nice to have some extra ammenitites for over night stays. It would save on the Hotel bills!! Something like A/c ,gen, standup shower, toilet. Some thing to accomodate me for a friday and saturday night stay and leave on sunday back to work!! Thats in the works next!! :D :D |
