Yes it is 12v if you look in the SCARAB Pics thread on page 7 post 123 you can see my before and after switches pic. http://www.gaffrigperformance.com/Pr...SubCategory=65 |
What power and does she run??? need pics of interior and power. I'm pretty sure it is a 30 S-type. Panthers were '86-'89 no windows on the side.

If I have not said yet, the boat is a 1977. It has twin small block chevy. I will post pics of the interior and engines soon-have not got that far.

About hydraulic steering, I have a single hydraulic ram on the starboard side, inside the transom. Is that "stock"?
|
Yes that is stock steering, it is a form of hydraulic steering. but what everyone talks about is "External Hydraulic Steering" which is actual Hydraulic Cylinders that mount externally to the drives off of the back outside transom. What you have should be fine for your application. I have the same steering on mine and I run just over 70. I have Drew Marine Sidewinders attached to my drives that act like shock absorbers to take the slop out of my steering.
I am putting on the external hydraulic steering right now and removing the Sidewinders. With my new power I should be in the 80's which need the external for safety. |
How much do you have in the new steering stuff???
|
I have $600 in the cylinders(E-bay), $250 for the capilano helm pump(E-bay), $56 for 60 feet of hydraulic hoses and fittings, (the guys at hydraulic shop hooked me up. The company I work for spends tens of thousands of $$$ with them so they hook me up on my personal stuff), and I am machining all the transom and drive plate mounts my self. Plan on spending $2000+ for new full hydraulic steering. If you not running 70+ I wouldn't do it, but just check over your steering stuff carefully. I would recommend the steering stabilizers though, but still not necessary.
I also sent you some of all the pics I have. |
Thanx I got the pics. The steering kit I looked at yesterday was about 4 to 4 1/2 K. You can save $$$ if you know what you are doing. I know engine stuff, but I have a long way to go everything else. You said the windshield was stock? Is that a Panther feature?
|
yes it is a panther feature, I think you are missing the upper portion of yours. usually the S-type came with a glass upper.
|
It is a S-type. The windows in the hull were either an add on or an option. You are missing the framework for you windshield and and it was glass. I have the glass but I reused the frame on mine. Looks like you are missing your bow rails. I have a real nice set of low profile stanless railings that will screw right into your deck...I think your boat came with a taller version that did not look to cool.
I am sure your neighbors love you:cool-smiley-027: What part of calli are you in? |
