You are exactly right. For about 3 secs when the camera is on Stone from the port side, the rails are missing and there's a dark circle about 2" in diameter. Looks like a plug of some sort. Looks like there could've been a camera mont there for behind the cockpit scenes like in Out Where the Buses Don't Run. Those shots were shot from beyond the back seat. Rest of the shots from Starboard you can see the rails. The very last shot you can see the piano hinges on the starboard hatch...ahh nuts...here I go again.

By the way, did you see my post from a couple weeks back about the Vice sign and gauge layout on your boat?

Got the photos and post. Tell me a little bit more on the sign and your boats history. (another writers cramp) Later, You also stated a very accurate explination of working on these boats.
Good thing my grand dad was GUMBY. I also noticed a post on the vertical stripe on the KV in the show. I talked to Tom, he said when they sanded the arch for repaint there was no evidence of prior striping. One riddle solved!!!

I do have a habit of ramblin on when it comes to these boats...bit of a detail junkie. Not that there's anything wrong with that...right???
I was beginning to think my grand dad was Gumby's horse Pokey...now there might be something wrong with that.:eek:

As for the striped arch boat...see it mostly in the Wellcraft ads. Only a couple times breifly in early 2nd season episodes.

Now on with the history lesson...Our Kv was originally ordered new by Bill Taylor to be the flagship boat for his Power Boating Canada magazine…the same Bill Taylor as in “Poker Runs of America”. It was used for promotions of his magazine and Miami Vice at some Canadian boat shows. I'm assuming that's the reason for the sign in the picture. I was told Don Johnson was a friend of Bill's and made an appearance with the boat once and drove it. I was never able to confirm this until I tried to get hold of Bill about photos of the boat, but spoke with his daughter instead. She said she was pretty sure he had driven it...never did get the photos though. In 1993 Brian Ross from Snap-On Tools purchased the boat from Bill to use in the poker run series that Power Boating Canada and Snap-On were going to sponsor together. They ran it one year in the Vice colors and then did a complete renovation/restoration. Hot Knots from Orillia Canada did the work and supplied the crew that traveled with the boat through out the four years in the series. Everything was done through sponsorship. Wellcraft supplied all modern updates including Gaffrig gauges, electronics, electric bolsters, Latham steering...the list goes on and on. In 1998 Brian went with a new sonic and his wife joined him as they ventured into F-2 racing. They had just put new rebuilt motors in and rebuilt the drives when the decision was made to sell the Scarab. That’s when we purchased the boat. She had 20 hrs on the motors and none on the drives. In 2003 Brian, Wilma and Bill Taylor were here in Fond du Lac (home of Mercury Racing, Kiekhaefer and Mel Riggs Marine) for the pilgrimage of power parade in conjunction with the offshore races and Bill’s poker run in Milwaukee. We spent the day with the Ross's and Hot Knots crew and had a blast. All said and done, the Scarab was still their baby and they were blown away to see her again. I'm gonna post an article in the next post that appeared in Power Boating Canada. See if I can get it big enough that you can read it off a pic. (cheat the cramp)
