Monogram Scarab KV model kits

3 Attachment(s)
From 86-88 Monogram models produced three Scarab KV model kits. The first was the "Miami Vice" kit released in 86. "Splash Dancer" and "Dazzlement" were released as spinoff kits until 88. If you were a fan of the boat, you probably had the kit. Let's see some pics posted of your builds.

DAZZLEMENT is our boat and she's still running in Lake Michigan and in the Gulf of Mexico around Tampa. Monogram approached my husband when they saw DAZZLEMENT in Chicago and asked if they could make a model. We have saved a few models in boxes and have one assembled in a glass case. We'd be interested in knowing if anyone has any models out there. You can see pictures of her and the upgraded engines on our company website at www.atecoengines.com.

That's cool. Often wondered if Dazzlement and Splash Dancer really existed. Did Monogram ever mention where Splash Dancer was located. Your kit was the rarest of the three. I have three in the wrap and one opened kit. What year is your 377?

Post some pics and info about it in the Club Scarab thread.

If you have any video of it, there's a Scarab Video Club thread.

The title says it's a 1980, but the entire boat has been upgraded. We took out all of the stringers and bulkheads and reinforced them a few years ago and rearranged the cabin a little. The upholstery has been redone twice and of course the engines are upgraded on a regular basis, since we're in the business. Right now we're running twin ATECO 555's, with 725hp each. We don't try to change the overall look, we just want to keep it fresh. We love that boat. Glad to hear that you have a model of it.

I have the kit of your boat, I bought all three over the past year--wish they would make one like my JETLAG! ha! ha! My ego would love that!!

Is your boat a 38KV? or 377? I could not find any pics of the boat?

It's a 377. I'll try to post some pictures on the Scarab Club thread, but I'm not very good at doing that.

here's one I built, from the splashdancer kit.

I always wondered why the dazzlement model kit was a 38kv, and the real boat is a 377. That's pretty cool monogram asked to copy the decals from the real boat though. Hope you got royalties:D

Thanks la-zdunck for swinging the pics of your kit to this thread.

Take note of the custom and after market detail parts in the engine compartment. For those who are not familiar with this kit, all this detail is in a 1-3/4" x 2" space.

NICE JOB!!:drink:

scarab kv, I'm moored in Seattle a few years back during Seafair Festival. Lots of people milling around the docks; a couple strolls by with that scawny little poodle; I saw the photo op and asked if I could pose their pooch on my pad; an avatar is born. - jeff

Always makes me laugh. We have a Basenji that has BIG DOG ideas.

377 is an awesome boat. My first big boat was one. Shouldn't have sold it. It is up in ozarks some where now tearing it up. I think I am going to build another one. It just takes a lot of power to make them run.

Cool models.

Thanks Jeff. Did you sell your Cougar? Seen a post earlier this month that you were selling it.

Still got it. I pulled the ebay ad early because I really didn't have time right now to take it apart. I am actually planning on taking it out one last time this year tomorrow.

Got some drive spacers for it I want to try out also.

It seems they will re-release the model in April:

Think the may be a re-issue they're doing for someone else. The kit isn't on their site and they did away with the Dazzlement name.

JetJock 01-14-2009 09:52 AM

you should get ahold of Monogram and send them some pics of our boats? Might kit a kit release??
