Need some advice on the 38 vs 29

I had a 22' Scarab, then a 31' now a 38' (Non-AVS 1998). I just went to the river last week and went south from London Bridge to Havasu Springs (about 45 miles round) then to Pirates Cove (about 55 miles round) that along with a trip to Havasu landing (8 miles?). I used about 120 gallons -(less than the main tank holds which is 144). If I had a 29 what could I have used ? 70 gallons? 50 gallons @$3.00 is $150. a small price to pay for the ride and comfort of a 38'. Now I do this amount of boating maybe 5-6 time a season. If it was every other weekend I could see the financial burden...

The 38 is the only way to go!! If you can manage a newer one with the AVS hull .. ..will give you better miles per gallon but even if you get an older one still the only way to go.. Good luck in your search

Definitely the 38.
Something to consider is hull length to engine weight ratio. The 29' with it's integrated swim platform is only 27' of hull. The 38' will have 36' with a platform or 38' if it's a KV. I had a 30' Villain (28' hull) with twin BB and it was a tail dragger. Had to use a lot of tab to make it fly level and it porpoised easily. My KV needs very little tab, never porpoises and handles the rough a lot better as you would expect.
