Wellcraft lists the performance on their website for the 22 Scarab as follows:

1995 with Volvo 5.8L at 58-61 mph with a 22 pitch prop
1996 with 7.4L Bravo at 63.3 mph with a 23 Mirage
1997 with 7.4L Bravo at 65.1 mph with a 25 Mirage
1998 with 7.4 MPI Bravo at 65.3 mph with a 25 Mirage Plus

See if you can borrow a 25? Your not gonna like it w stock motor. I got 525+ HP and still use a 25 sometimes. You wont get enough lift with the 25 p and stock ponies. You can trim / trailer it to death. It might sound like your goin faster but I think the 23 will be your best result and will be the best all around.

Is there a difference in the hull or setup between 1996 & 1997 for the pitch to change? I know the 97 and 98 are identical hulls. My 97 came from wellcraft with the 25 mirage plus. Wellcraft was adamant I was wasting money trying different props. Wellcraft had it dialed in.

It's easy to tell if you are trimming up too much or too little by monitoring the gps speed. If throwing a rooster, you're probably wasting thrust.

I thought '95 and older was different hull (no padded keel like '96 and up)?

I am currently testing props on my 22 also. I've got the 454 stock setup. Currently have a 24 pitch 4 blade and run 58.5 at 4100 rpms. Getting a 23 Mirage+ to test this weekend. The 24 makes the boat jump on plane (like 2 to 3 seconds with little power).

I am curious to see what this boat would do with an Arneson.. With a modest 500hp? Does anyone know if anyone has ever ran an Arneson drive on a S22?

i have run alot of props on on my 22 scarab but its a 350 procharged my two fastest props to date were a 25 laser 2 and a 26 ballistic ia m also run a 25 mirage and a 25 mirage plus.

the laser has more bow lift than the mirage and the mirage plus, but the mirage was better out of the hole than the laser.

I tested a 23 Mirage+ this weekend on my 22. Best speed so far, pretty good all around prop.
