Default Fuel in bilge

I have a problem and was just wondering if anyone has heard or had this problem. The fuel gauge on my 22 scarab is broke so the other day I took the sending unit out to see if I could get the foam to move up and down. I was unable to do it so I put the sending unit back in. Underneathe the unit is a rubber gasket.... Anyway The last 2 times I have had the boat out There has been fuel in the bilge area. I looked to see if there was any leaks around the motor and didnt see anything. Is there anywhere else I should look. I am going to get another gasket monday to see if thats the fix... Any help appreciated?
