I bought this 97 22 Scarab with the 454 7.4 MPI about two weeks ago and have been going through it fixing little things.
I can not figure out the kill switch, seems simple but I am stumped. It runs now and I dont want to end creating a problem that a dealer has to fix.
There is no lanyard currently, the red plunger is out and the boat runs. I can push the red button in and it springs out. The back of the kill switch has 4 terminals and two are being used.
The ingnition switch looking from the back has a 12volt power coming in about 6 oclock, then a red wire about 1 oclock which I assume is 12 volt power from the switch, and then a yellow wire about 11 oclock that I assume is my starter.
The kill switch has a purple wire going to the 12 volt aout 1 oclock on the ignition switrch, and then a purple going back into the wiring harness.
The ingnition key seems to be working normal. If I turn the key on I get power to the kill switch from the 1 oclock key switch wire, and 12 volts from the other purple wire on the kill switch going into the harness. If I push the kill switch in I get no power coming out of the kill switch purple wire going into the harness.
Does this noat have something in the motor area to kill it rather than just cutting power? Is the kill switch wired right, I assumed the plunger out would kill power and the lanyard would hold it in?

Thanks, I bought a new one and put it in correctly I think.
With the lanyard in place the boat will turn over but not start, is this correct. I guess know I am wondering for my knowledge what is this switch "killing"?
I can tell the wire off the kill switch does go into the main harness back to the motor.
