my neighbor has a 33avs with inovation 600's and it runs mid 80's depending on load....i would think mid 70's with 502's in normal conditions......a 3ft chop is no problem and the overall ride is good....the 29 will have twin small blocks and if it is a single bb it will take 700hp plus to make it run any decent speeds then drive issues will be a concern.....imo i will take length over a narrow beam anyday....good luck

depends on the deal....realize its not going to be a huge difference in the ride its only a 2ft differance....the 33avs will give you more of a "powerboat" feel but it comes down to doller and cents....the 33's hold there value pretty good and you can buy a 38 for a few more bucks...

Test drive a 33. I disagree completely with what MrSneak states regarding the difference between the 2. They are 2 very different boats and the 33 is way more capable. The 29s, with their narrow beam, run decent in rough water primarily in a head sea, other sea directions not as good. (do you have a single 502 or twin 350s) The 33s run decent in rough water from all angles. There are other things that come into play as well, like your 29 likely does not have hydraulic steering, the 33 will. Huge plus! Way more cockpit room. The beam alone is 1 ft wider.
Put it this way. I bought a 2001 29 new moving up?? from a Pantera. I was dissapointed. I bought a 33 2 months later and never looked back.
I am not guessing or supposing any of this. I have owned a 29 and I have owned a 33 w/ 502 mags, 500 HPs, and the current Volvo 600s w/ DPX drives.

scarabman we see things the same i have the twin 350 and it is just what you said in rough water and the 33 with the steering, stepped hull ,and the speed you say are decent i'm looking for a better ride over top speed i would like to go bigger but the my shop where i keep my boat won't fit a 38 so i'm looking for the best package in that length of boat. i like the avs is there any others out there that would compare in the under 60 range i'm also looking at the powerplay 33 with 496 ho no step

1999 33 avs with 502s bravo 1s forgot prop size but a consistant 75-77. ride was great, friend had a 1996 (ibelieve) 29 scarab with single... night an day difference in the ride between the two. stability, able to take waves from basically any direction, and bigger all around.. I ran in the gulf off of Florida and would hit some honest 3's and not bat an eye in that boat.....I kick myself everytime for getting rid of that boat..

As far as other choices, the 33 Powerplay is certainly a good one and will have a good rough water capability, but it will not have some of the options available on the Scarab, ie (carpet vs rubber flooring, manual vs possibly electric bolsters, which is a nice feature, head w/ holding tank vs porta-potti, transom shower, shore power, etc. Those things may or may not matter. Again, as a "total package", the Scarab has a lot to offer. The Powerplay as a sports car is a great boat. Another option, if you want a little more than the sports car, may be a Donzi 33 Daytona, if you could find one. They have a lot of features and they are a BIG 33, wide and tall. They run pretty good but they do not ride as well as the 33AVS.
