Advice needed on Boat Purchase - 1995 34' Scarab
Okay, I heard this was the place to go so I need some help. (looking for fast response, so if MODS can move to better section for this, that would be great)
Got a chance to buy this boat..
1995 34' Scarab, twin factory supercharged 502's (12 hrs, 48 hrs)
The good -
Engines rebuilt recently
Paint is pretty good
interior re-done 2 years ago
$3k stereo in it
The bad -
Needs buffing all around
Nobody took shoes off and scared up seats inside, needs TLC
stereo would not go on, owner doesn't know how to get it on
little things here and there broken/need replacing. Cuddy cabin lights did not go on, handle by driver seat was lose, etc.
The BIG BAD THING.... Bravo 1 outdrives, with non-matching ratios. They also have different pickups on it. One is 1:34 ratio and one is 1:50 ratio. IT has been run like this for a long time.
I can pick it up for $25k. Is it worth it? What problems will I entail? I know how to turn a wrench like no other, but have never screwed with a boat like this.
Need advice. Thanks guys.

Your 25 K boat will turn into a night mare !!!!!! Walk away at a fast pace and dont look back !You will have to put another 10 to 15 to make it all right! Buy a boat that's been taken care of and before you lay the money down have the boat surveyed by someone who knows what they are doing .... do not take the word from one of your buddies who don't know crap! .... Hope you got the cash bacause almost all money from banks have dried up .... and while your at it check on insurance also.
Not talking you out of buying a boat ------ but you have to go about it the right way or you will get burned or the boat will turn into a larger money pit than you think is possible...Good luck

An owner that didnt care about having outdrives with different ratios, and ran it that way, is an owner that didnt care about much. Did he care about who and how the engine were rebuilt?????? Take a step back, and if you really like the boat get it surveyed as Cigboat said and then make your decision from there.
Changing a drive is not a big deal at all. It is likely all the "little things" are going to add up though.

I own a 92 and I think 93 was the last year built. After 93 they made a 33 footer that was stepped I think. and it was the 31 with a built on swim platform. The 34 is really almost 36 foot long with the platform.
