My first boat. My wife and I have purchased our first boat after Drag racing motorcycles for 20 yrs. Getting too old to be sitting on a bike wearing a full leather suit on 100+ degree asphalt for hrs on end.
We purchased this boat from a 24 yr old that had purchased it for the "Jobbie Nooner" from the second owner. We found this out after the money had exchanged hands. Not a huge issue, but would have been nice to know he only owned it for a week. The second owner lived on Offshore Dr. in Harrison Twp. Mi. If anyone knows this boat or the previous owner, I would like to get in contact with him to learn more about the boat. It is an 88 Scarab Excel 28' grey sides, blue Scarab on the side and a black bottom.
I am learning all kinds of things about boats and boating that I never knew. This site, along with a couple of others, have been a real big help in diagnosing and repairing many of the issues my boat has had.
I worked for an automotive prototype company for 20 years and know how to run wires and terminate the ends. Working on the wiring issues on this boat is a nightmare. The fuse panel is all hacked up with wire nuts and twist ties and nothing is labeled. Many of the spade terminals are loose and fall off their terminals. My fuel gauge for one. Fixed that last night.
Does anyone know if there is a wiring schematic available for this boat?
Also, the bilge pump was wired in with wire nuts and electrical tape. Who does that in a wet environment?
I do have a couple of questions specific to my boat though. Is there only one bilge pump on this boat? I have only found the one in the engine bay. Does anyone have a picture of the inside of the cockpit that shows what is supposed to be attached to the inside lip of the "windshield"? I have holes all the way around the the lip.
Thanks for the great site
Jeff

Yes, 1 bilge pump in there and I wouldn't recommend wire nutting it. Wiring diagram? Nope, they didn't keep records back then or if they did, they're long gone. Use crimp connectors and/or shrink tubing, tighten everything up and go through the boat with a screwdriver every year or two looking for loose connections and tightening up things like the rub rail.
The holes or screws on the faring are for attaching a curved windscreen deflector. Rather than getting a face full of straight wind in your face at speed, it the deflector (all one piece) created enough turbulence to push most of the wind up and over your head while sitting.
It was made by a company (Viplex Inc.) near the factory which is now out of business. They charged about $250 for the windscreen, and another $250 to crate it and ship it. They made the entire plexi package for the boat including the hatch door and the dash console.
My apologies up front for the pict, but this is all I could find.

Had to. Too many deep pockets. Not going to spend $50-60k to build a bike. Not racing Pro Mod either. Going to run Top Gas with the Pro Mod and 9.50 with the old Shootout bike sans nitrous.
Should have bought a boat years ago.
People have told me boating is expensive. They have never been racing.
If you know anyone looking for a nice race set-up, the big red truck and trailer are for sale.

Drag Bikers all end up here
I'm on my 3rd boat after 20yrs of drag bikes. I wanted to race the 30 Velocity but the LOTO Shootout was as close as I've came so far.
We raced in Pro Superbike together I think. I blew up a LOT of stuff trying to race w/Muzzys.

Mark, I remember you from the track. Fun times back in the day.
We met a lot of nice people over the years. We will still travel a bit, but we are not going to commit like we used to.
I have lived within a mile of Lake Saint Clair for 40 years, and finally have a boat. Not looking to set speed records, just go out and enjoy the water.

That's what I said 3 boats ago
Great to hear your boating. It is "usually" much more fun and way less stress. Been dying to get up to LSC for one of the races or poker runs.
Have fun and Cya on the water!
