Default What was the estimate of speed Scarab One?

I bought a 22 foot Scarab one last year that I have been restoring for over a year boat and trailer. The engine was rebuilt I don't know what was done to it because the owner gave me a phone number to the guy that rebuilt it but he never picks up nor returns calls. It seems stock with Vortec heads on it. Smooth idle no hp cam.
Any way I finially got to take it out on the lake and in full trim accross the water I got 46mph at 5000 feet allitude. I didn't think this was bad for 5000 foot alltitudeI know this is not the performance models more pleasure and sking but how fast were these boats supposed to go new with a 5.7 in them. Does anybody know how much they were new? Its a 1985. I don know very much about these boats. Thanks

Mine does 53 with a fresh 260 merc and stainless 21 pitch 3 blade. That is fully trimmed out but almost a full tank of fuel, 1 passenger and some gear. I would be surprised to see 59, at least with mine.

What altitude are you at? What year is yours?

Mine is an 84, I guess my altitude is sea level lol I don't really know. I'm on the Chesapeake Bay if that helps. Funny thing is mine will run its fastest in a slight chop, it goes about 50 when it's glass out. I have never ran it hard with no passengers and gear and low fuel so I don't know it's true capabilities but mid 50s is a safe guess. Mine is completely stock. I should add that the pitot speedo mine has says 49 but the gps app on my phone says 53.

Yours and mine is probably identical as far as body lines etc. Thats pretty good speed these boats are kinda on the heavy side but it helps your almost sea level too. Have any idea how much our boats where back in the day>

I think if you do a search and use some patience there is a post that has the brochure for our boats when new, it list options power, price etc its pretty cool. I can't remember where exactly but its on this forum somewhere. They are neat little boats, I have only had mine a little while but it is impessive given it's age and small size.

I just barely got mine out on the shake down about a week and half ago. Spent two months just restoring the trailer alone just now got it able to put in the water. Been on it since last year. So I am still learning. If you find that post let me know will ya? Thanks Roger
