I bought the old '85 38' with arnesons that was for sale on here awhile back. the boat is still in the process of replacing stringers and now being repainted. I would love to talk to rik about the drives I have and what i need to freshen them up, but I am not quite to that stage yet. The steering ram brackets have kaama written on them, which the boat originally came with.here is a pic of the transom before I bought it, the drives were not on the boat when I picked it up. hopefully the link works.

Scarab family
We have about the same size boat. Ours is a 1980 38ft 377 with kevlar hull and its about 9500 lbs. With the 454 set up we went about 55mph. We have sence upgraded to 540/700HP and took the hook out of the hull and now she goes about 76-78mph.
We are in the process of installing more power (850-900HP) and Arneson ASD8 drives. Hope this helps you! Give us a call if you need any help. Enjoy!

Thanks Mac, wondered what happened to ya. I see ya have a hatch option that could work good. Gimmie a ring when you have a chance.

I do not know a lot about the scarab hull. However I had many people around the docks tell me that my kaama drives would not produce enough bow lift. I have my props spinning in and at neutral or a just bump up of trim, I have more than enough bow lift. It will pick the entire boat up when you slam the throttles down. I personally think the statement that surface drives do not provide bow lift is a myth. My hull is a straight bottom, engines are far forward due the trans and drive line, but my cabin is damn near stripped of nothing but some cushions.

I agree, i really think its all about prop tuning/technology. If you try and "find" props that will work, well you probably wont. I suspect most props simply do not have enough rake and diameter to be suitable for a true surface drive. Long and short of it is you need a prop specifically for these things for it to function optimally.

Tim L. thanks for the info i may need a thing or two. Boxes? Wedge plates? . . . . props

A tad older then what you want but the price is probably right and its somewhat local!
