What RPM did you run with the 32S

Sorry just went back and ran the numbers again I was using the wrong gear ratio 17.5 x 35 5 blade if you can turn them you should run about 109 to 110

i was responding to whoever asked about which drive they thought was faster and i was giving a for instance. Imo the 5 drive seems to be faster i was not comparing boats. I am a big fan of scarab's i have had 3.

as for your question of rpm 5500 was where I was at without stepping on the blowers 6% under, 4 lbs of boost... so as u can see lots left in the tune up |
my question now Dan is what impact will stagger and 3.5" higher x dim have on the prop??

your slip numbers should go down. the higher X with the stagger will carry the boat a lot higher out of the water. the 5 blade just gives you more trimability to carry that heavy nose with high X dim. and you also need the diameter in the prop. That also helps carry the boat

1) better weight distribution... especially with blown engines as they are very heavy... 2) because the drives are closer together, (typically 21" apart) the engines can be rigged lower in the hull achieving better center of gravity... 3) the drives being this close together give the hull much better lift which = more speed 4) makes for easier maintenance as you can get around the engines when one is in front of the other... 5) because the engines are now lower in the bilge, you would have a better chance of clearing the hatch with blower/carb thus keeping wifey happy (no big hood scoops) there are disadvantages too 1) its a SH*T load of work to re rig the boat 2) docking isn't as easy as when the drives are 35" apart 3) cost of stagger equipment isn't cheap!! but who we kidding, add the word boat and if you have to ask how much? you likely can't afford it!!! hope this helped a bit... for more info ask the Guru himself.. You got it right on the money. But as far as docking they still dock easy those big props take a big bite and turn just fine !

Thanks Dan, your help and opinions are always welcome... I'm excited about this project wish it could be with #6's but that's just not in the budget at this time... gonna have to resort to the ole motto
"run what ya brung" lol... good thing is, my Scarab was a "six" boat to start with, and all the plumbing is there from the helm back.. so upgrading in future wont be too bad as I'm gonna put the 5's where I'd want the sixes to end up... 1.5" up!! |
So Big Al what's going on with the project haven't seen any updates ? We just got the 46 Gentry Scarab In and are starting on the restoration. Would love to see some pics of the project
