Scarab 31 owners......GOT SPEED?
 

Wanted to see what other Scarab 31 owners are running as far as power?, props?, RPM?, and honest GPS speeds.

Reason I ask ia I bought a 91 Scarab 31 excel over the winter and on the seatrial the water was dead flat and the dash speedo was just pushing past 75mph. The boat has 1.5 ratio bravo 1's turning 27P mirage pluss 3 blade's at 5200rpm trimmed out. The motors are fresh 502's that are said to be replacements for the original Merc HP 465's wich I was told ran just as good (same props same rpm) before needing replaced. I have a friend with a formula 336 with 500's that runs low 70's and this Scarab felt a bit faster from what I remember. Seller said the boat will run near 80 in the right water wich I have a hard time believing but could the dash speedo at 75 be close to the GPS numbers. Anyone running a similar setup? What might I expect in a light chop?

According to wellcraft that hull should see 72-73 mph with 502 mags. I have heard that hull will run about 76-77 mph with hp500's.

I have read on the OSO forums everything from 76-79 with HP500's. If anyone on here has a 31 with 500's I would like to see what props and rpm they are running so I can compare. I did the math and with 27's at 5200rpm 75-77 may be possible but that is just on paper

Not an exact comparison my 96 31 with procharged 502's runs 82 in dead flat water and 85-86 in rougher stuff.

indysupra what props at what rpp are you running? Your running way more power than me but just curious.

Stock bravo 28's. Revlimiter 5250.

I run low 80's with HP500's and bravo 26's.

Wow! both of you guys are getting really low prop slip numbers to get those kinds of speeds, assuming you are running 1.5 gear Bravo drives. Maybe I should look into a set of 4 blade bravo props.

Have either of you guys tries 3 blades ? Everything I have read leads me to believe a 3 blade should run better top end numbers with the Scarab 31 hull ? But you guys seem to be getting some verry impressive numbers with 4 blades.
