-1 or -2 on 700hp 22' Scarab?

Anyone out there have a good setup they can recommend? What prop at what height?

Buy the -2 lower ... you can always run a spacer if needed ... much easier to sell if its an epic failure ! :)

700hp and a shortie on a 22 scarab. Can you please PM me your full name, date of birth, address and any other pertinent info so that I may take out a life insurance policy on you?? Other than that, sounds like a blast!!

+1

My buddy just sold one with a mild 496 stoker making close to 500 and that thing would get pretty scary!

I have zero respect for my own life. -2 it is.

Let us know what it runs, sounds like it would be fun _2 the way to go though

I run 600 hp on my 22 scarab at about 85. Standard lower on a bravo one X. Depends on the amount of fuel on how wild the ride. It's not for rookie operators. I can't imagine a -2 Inch

You guys are crazy! 75mph in my 22' can get alittle un stable at times!

What prop are you using??? cause I have a 525efi on it, with a -2 imco shortie and still didn't find the prop for it :-( plenty of stern lift above 70mph!! Best I ran till now is 78mph with a hydro P5, i tried a Bravo but plenty of china walk with a 4 bladed. P5x plenty of slip and very slow accellation.

D harry where is the propshaft in relation to the bottom of the hull. Scarab seemed to always burry the xdimension on single engine boats. A -2 should carry the boat much better than in stock location. what pitch prop are you using? what rpm is your engine spinning? if you can spin more rpm's and reduce the pitch it will allow less stern lift. i know 525 efi's have rev limiter's but boats that run big hp around here spin 6000 rpm range.plus it is easier on the drive.

I am already using the -2 lower unit from imco, and the propshaft is 3 1/2 inches below the pad. It's a 30 pitch prop, Smaller pitch then that I go into the rev limiter. With a 30 pitch the engine is spining 5200. So do you think I should go for a 1.36 ratio??? As regarding the drive it's a XR upper with an Imco lower.

I would say yes if you do not like the stern lift and or the ride feels unsafe. you may loose a little speed and cruise may decrease but if you spin more rpms same thing can happen. i am not a big fan of 1.36's so unless you can have the rev limiter tuned or turned up 1.36's would be the way to go. if you have a -2 drive on your scarab and you are still 3 1/2 below the bottom that is still pretty low but much better then factory location. my panther is set up to be 1 1/4 below the bottom with a -2 and 3 1/4 with standard bravo. so at some point if the transom wood gets rotten you should raise the x dimension higher. i also forgot that the 22 has a pad. bravo ones props can make pad bottom boats a little squirly. hydromotive may be a prop to try but I did not like on my single engine 29 scarab.

Thanks for info for now, I have to decide which way to go or else I'll pull out the 525 and put the 7.4 back in.

82@5200 rpms stock 30p bravo, 1.5 XR/-1 combo. Boat starts to bow steer pretty bad think I need a bit more bow lift.

So how about 80 in a 20 ftr ? Have a 650+ hp blower sbc ready to go in my 202 stinger, hello 100.

Is the prop blowing out ? Is that all you can turn up RPM wise with that 30?

Boat is still accelerating but I haven't had the balls to push past 82 yet.
