Default Lookin at a 96 31 Scarab

I posted this in the General Discussion yesterday but maybe I'll get a better response here.

I am currently looking at purchasing 96 31 Scarab. What are all your opinions of this boat? How does it ride compared to other boats of similar size I may consider (29 outlaw, 311 formula SR1, 29 powerquest enticer). I do most of my boating on the bay of Green Bay where 1-3' foot chop is normal can get 5-6' on rougher days. Also what type of speeds could I expect to see? Any benificial information is appreciated. I did some searching and but didn't find exactly what I was looking for. Also, what would you say a fair price is (I know its tough with no pictures)? I've seen the boat on the water/at the marina and looks very well maintained/clean. Specs are below:

96 31 Scarab
Twin 454 Mag(385hp) EFI 375hrs
CMI HEADERS
standoff boxes
hydr steering
12000lb myco trailer

There was a 97 that sold in the winter with similar hours they were asking $35k. The headers and boxes will add value. The myco trailer is expensive. Whats he asking for it? I just bought a boat but was considering a 31. My limit on a 31 was in the mid to high 30's on only a very clean boat. The 33avs can be bought closer to the 50k mark so I'd rather put a bit more in to get the stepped hull. That boat will be perfect for your water conditions. I would think it would run mid to high 60's. Might even get to 70 with perfect condition and setup.

Thanks. He is asking 45k for it but I think it could be had for 35-38k. I wouldn't pay more than that for it. Like you said there ae some 33 AVS's out there for around 50k so his asking price seems a a little high.

Headers and boxes are probably 6-8k easy. But as we all know we never get our money back out if upgrades. Just helps to entice a buyer.

Hello, I have a 1995 31' Scarab and love the boat. It has twin 7.4's and will do 64 mph on GPS. The person I bought it from used it for poker runs and had twin 850's in it and would do 100 mph on GPS. he said it was a great rough water boat. He currently has a Hustler 388.
