scarab 22 top speed question
 

I bought a 96 scarab 22 hull and put a 454 mag carb motor in it that cam out of another one of my boats top speed the first time out was 65 on gps. I had sucked up water and barely made it back to the dock. Pulled the plugs and they were rusted. Pulled the risers and had puddles in the manifolds. Checked compression it was 150-155. Looks like it's been sucking water for awhile so is 65 good for an almost cooked motor and how fast should it run after redoing top end? Thoughts anyone?

I used to have a 96 Scarab with a 502 MPI. Boat usually ran about 72 on GPS. 70 on a slow day. 74 best day . Ran a labbed 25P Mirage Plus prop. It was lots of fun.

What rpm did you run with that prop? I used an old messed up re pitched small diameter 24 prop 5100 rpm 65 mph. To be honest i was hoping for more till i saw the inside of the heads. Im currently looking for the same prop you had.

The engine was all stock. I am thinking 5150, is the stock rev limiter? I was bumping on that. Don't know why, but mine ran faster than other 22's I raced. Just lucky I guess.:p

yep, that will help. While your in there might as well add some more HP.;)

I have a scarab with hp465 in it , 731 cam ,merlin heads , dart intake etc Around 600 hp ,83 mph labbed 30 pitch

I think you might have to much cam its called reversion

Yea it is called reversion but i don't want it anymore.! Stock cam as far as I know. I started cleaning the heads today

My 96 runs 66gps max, 63gps avg. 24p 3 blade - stock 454 carb

at what rpm and is it a 454 mag?
