Default 22 platform/transom sealing question

I have read that this a place water can enter the boat on slow down. Am I understanding that water enters from the rear (where the gunnel meets the hull) and just sits in that cavity?

What have others done here on the board? Do you just seal the rear rub rail? Do you fill the inside of the swim platform with foam?

Sorry if this is a dumb question but I am brand new to scarab and boating. I spent the last month pulling the engine to replace the ring gear on the flywheel and finally have it all back together. While I still have the boat in the garage, I would like to repair any bad engineering that the scarab may have (with in reason)

Thanks
