I picked up a really clean 1990 Excel, 500 blue merc. I sent it to Mitcher T for paint. Im really looking forward to getting it back. I also have a Checkmate 270 Mid-Cabin with a 540(720HP). I wanted to share some thoughts and get some feedback so feel free to chime in.
-The Scarab seems to handle better then the Checkmate at lower speeds.
-The Scarab turns much better and does not have the lean that the Checkmate has.
-The Checkmate Hull handles much better at higher speeds then the Scarab. The Scarab seems to chime a bit in the 60s and the Checkmate is smooth as hell.
What kind of power have you guys seen in a similar Scarab hull? Im thinking my 540 would be a bit much for it. I will share some before and after pics when I get it back.

It will handle that 540 with no issues....720 HP will make it dance 75-80+, depending upon how its set up out the back. I have seen 750HP in that boat and its pretty quick, you will have to play with props to get it dialed in tho.
