97 Scarab Re-post with #5 ssm's
To all my fellow Scarab friends, wondering if anyone has done a Bravo - 502 mpi to tall deck - ssm conversion. I'm looking to find out if the x dimension stays the same as well as any other issues with dropping these in my 38?
If you leave the x the same, the propshaft will be about 1/2" below the bottom.
Can you tell me what the recommended x would be?
Sorry I made a mistake there, if your current propshaft height is 4" below, or x is 18" you will be 1/2" below with an Ssm 5. Was in the middle of something and referenced where I typically setup a bigger bravo boat. Is yours an avs hull or straight bottom? Notched transom? Going to use boxes?
I have a strait hull with no notches or steps, open to options with boxes
No notch, I'd do boxes with the propshaft even with the bottom, 1" below if you're looking for better cruise and want to give up a little top end.
As in neutral boxes, I would guess that moving up 3'':would make the boat more unstable at higher mph?
Up 3" from where? 3" above the bottom? It would be very stable, at idle.... Never get on plane.
Not sure I worded that correctly, sorry....I under will start with getting them mounted and see where I'm at, I'm just learning about the ssm's so it will take some time to figure it out. Thanx for all your help!
I believe the ssm 5 is 18.65" shaft to shaft, so if you want to be even with neutral boxes (adjustable boxes are tough on u joints) set the x dimension to 18.65, if you want to be 1" below 17.65, if using 3" raise boxes 15.65" etc. hope that helps.
