I like the looks of the gunnel padding on the older 377's. I'm torn as to whether to put mine back on or not. If this is your boat it's a sweet looking boat.

That's why I'm starting this thread. I have a performance report on the 38 Excel which is the same as our boats, other than; different deck, slightly different grid, and bravos. That boat with 415 hp 502's, did 65.8 mph. That was at 4900 rpms, 1.36:1 gear ratio and 21 Mirages. The Flat decks have a lighter hull, but the TRS may eat up those gains. Either way, as I'm sure you have found, there is very little posted about the speeds of these boats. Most seem more concerned about Miami Vice. I have found more than one thread about the 600 hp and 80 or close to it for speed, but other than that, there is very little posted. Ha, if you go to the Fountain or Cig pages, there are non-stop speed posts.

I'm hoping that we can get some good info.

Yes that's my boat above! My boat has all of the original panels, teak, seats, gauges. Literally, everything is there, and 90% of it is in really good shape. I agree though, I've gone back and forth about the padded gunnels. If I keep the teak batten side panels, I'm going to keep the padded gunnels. The one thing that is going to go, is the twin seat. I have a set of power McLeod bolsters (current formula seats) that I'm going to use. Once you have power seats it's to hard to go back to manual.

It's nice to see you so fired up about the boat . I'm glad you wound up with her.

Yeah, I'm pretty excited. I'm going to finally get in it and come up with a game plan on what to start on first. I think I'm going to shoot to have it in the water by next spring. Unless I find something drastically wrong, I don't see that being a tough timeline at all.

Ignore this post as I'm just trying to see if I need to update my photoshop account. I'm assuming the pic didn't show up.

I want to keep this thread for performance info so I'll post updates on the restoration over there.

Well just so you have it on record my top speed was 73mph on liquid filled Gaffrig (no gps back in those days) running about 7 pounds of boost through the turbos. Can't wait to see how yours turns out as well as hblair's, love them boats!
