No the boat in the first picture Kaama is the 1977 boat that has been lost for years. the picture of the Revenge boat is the 1979 version that was painted white and named Mich Light. Its also the same boat that was the white Kaama boat number 286 that why the had to repair the deck on the boat in NY. it was build much lighter than the 77 version. and there were some other differences between the boats as far as paint wind screen. What / where was the 1977 boat last seen?

Team Archer 04-27-2018 03:51 PM

early 80s in an old race video under a different name with the engines hatches still painted with the number plaques and KUDU RACING TEAM. But I am still looking for it so don't want to give to much info. Its to bad that Jewsbury didn't want my help with his paint layout he's got the deck painted like the 77 boat not the 79 but o well ! Regards Dan

And just to set the record right the 1977 boat was never the Mich Light boat it was always KAAMA. Joey Ipelito had a 38 that was Mich Light number 3

Joey's is the one with the angled corners on the fairing? Supposedly it's been nicely restored and has been for sale a while.

Do you know if the new deck he had made is correct for that boat?

Team Archer 04-30-2018 07:23 PM

I believe that he just took a quick mold off the original deck but he cut the front off and only replaced the front deck, that is what I was told. I don't like just cutting the deck in half we cored our decks from underneath so we didn't have to remove them a lot more work but much stronger deck.

Nowadays if we got Team Scarab boat questions or are in need of the best help in restoring or rigging a Larry Smith Scarab, then the

natural choice is Dan MacNamara at his Archer Marine shop in Huntington Beach. When Betty Cook raced Team Scarab boats back in

the late 1970s it was John Connor who was always, with the advice of Larry Smith himself too, who did a lot of the work. This interview of

Mr Connor from the other day is a rare one. He doesn't give interviews very often. He's a softspoken, humble gentleman and if I was

a young fellow who wanted to learn from one of the best, I'd do anything to be around John Connor.
