Interested to read your thread. I am in Croatia and have a small collection of Scarabs An 18, 22 and 26. I am also looking for a 33 to buy but as you know they are hard to find in Europe. I only know of one at the moment which is in Belgium but is in a terrible state. I am interested to hear how you get on with your speed testing. If I remember correctly the Scarab in Belgium had 30P props. I think the 28P should be about right. I think when these were originally tested by Wellcraft they were hitting 78-80mph but with minimal fuel. 400 liters is quite a lot of weight. Do you have antifoul on the bottom as that will cost a few mph? Powerboat magazine did a test in the year 1999 or 2000 and with Volvo 560hp and duo props. Top speed they claimed was 92mph.

Nice to hear news from other scarab people near me!

currently i hit 76mph /5000rpm, with low fuel and 2 persons. Speed that is inline with the data announced back then by scarab for my set up (502’s, bravo 1, 26pts ). I am not talking for the powerboat test (it was with 500hp), but for data in the owners manual). With the 28pts, i almost touch 80. I prefer the 26pts.
i have antifoul paint, but i dont believe it made any difference.
(speeds before restauration was 63-65... i repaired/ replaced/ updated litteraly everything , and the thing is great)

Greetings from Greece.

Summer period just ended , Scarab "wrote" 104hours of troublefree use. Mostly around 3000RPM, and occasionaly WOT.
Questions!
1. What oil to use? I had about 1lt oil consumption for every 10hours, but only after passing the first 30hours of use. Untill 30hours, everything was ok, and after that step , especially when on wot , i ve seen the consumption. I used Mercruiser oil, and i think they "broke" at about 30-40 hours. Oil temp &press are in normal range though.Reading the threats here, i cannot find the Mobil1 20-50 in Greece, so I am looking to Amsoil Dominator Oil.
2. What should be an normal oil consumption for the 502's mpi? (approx. 450hours) . Thinking of oil changes every 50hours.
3. At the end of season, i ve seen the (drivers side) engine oil pressure a bit dropped when cruising, with no other issues, and i presume is it just the oil that cannot hold. Am i right? (the mecchanic will check anyway next month).
4. I am thinking (just a thought for now) of putting Prochargers M1. Are they trouble free (in a healthy motor)? Or do i look for troubles ?

Thank you a lot!

Summer season ended so back for winter time...We had a great time. Amsoil are far better than the oem oils. Boat performed as it should all time.
