Wellcraft never built a 26 CV with outboards Team Scarab In CA built a few of their 26s with the twin 200 Mercs they ran around mid 80s to low 90s with the single OMC V-8 I never heard how fast it was. the only problem with the twin outboards was the powerheads being as high as they were the had a chine walking issue at times. WE had always planned to build one with 15 inch mid sections to lower the center of gravity but to many other projects to do so never happened. Regards Dan.

the 26cv probably wont like the weight of the omc v8s
I had a 1985 27 Excalibur which hulls were kinda close on dimensions
litte narrower,24deg bottom with fat lifting strakes out the rear
and it had a pair of v8s on it before I got it,,,,,,1100 lbs hanging off the rear
now they had the motors far apart and he went through hell with boat and sold it to me with no power,,,,
chine walked badly after 70 and lost water pressure in motors which would take out motors in short time
now I put on some hot merc offrshores on with 16 1/2 centers and boat was great in the rough after I did lots of cg work with ballast tank in front bow floor
and other rerigging,,,,

We have gone through and made sure the transom is reinforced to handle the extra weight. New transom and 5 leg bracing.

not the transom holding motor,,,the weight hanging off the rear messes up the cg,,,,,,,,
and old v8s are wide cowls,,,gotta get motors as close to vee as possible to lower strake ,,,,,not spread apart by outer strake,,,
same concept as staggering I/o motors,,,to get props close to vee as possible
short deep vee hull...….over 70 when it tries to loosen up is where the weight,,,,high center of gravity of the v8s and wide spread comes into play
good luck
I added a 35 gallon ballast fuel tank with a 15gpm transfer pump to adjust bow weight to water conditions
as u have to have front ballast if want to hang that much weight over rear,,,,as dan stated want to walk around and calmer the water the worse will be

dan knows the 26 the best ,,,,but with twin o/bs on this hull its a different boat than with an I/o on the center of keel
I did lots of mods to the 27 to make it a fun fast offshore boat as all I rode in was bays and gulf
with the bigger, wider top heavy v8s its a different world than my short and narrow mercs
keep us informed on ur progress and good luck,,,,,,john

gotta keep in mind the 27 ex is a different hull than the 26cv
narrower, deeper vee, taller gunnels and deck,,,so character differences to allow me to do what I did to it
since had v8s before I rigged out with triple short offshore modified merc racing 2.5s
which all 3 weighed less than the 2 second effort v8s that came off
all 3 props were closer in than their set up with 2,,,,,
so close to 900 hp ,,,over 8k for rpm 32 pitch cleavers
center motor 1 3/4 above outside 1" above bottom
had to back off throttles in 1= 1 1/2' chop at 105-110
as tail was starting to walk around,,,,,,
there is a thread in the Excalibur forum section when I had it for sale,,,1985 27 exclibur rigged hull
describes all done and balancing set up
have built many raceboats out of my shop,,my fun boats are tests and bets wheather can be done and work properly,,,lol
as stated the 26 with the top heavy motors and lower transom/gunnels plays a big factor on its handling
