Scarab 26 step bottom Hulls
Been looking around for a rigged, or mostly rigged hull to put my HP500 in. I remembered the Factory 1 Scarabs were pretty fast. How many 26 Scarabs had a stepped hull?
I was asking on fb about the old Factory-1 Scarabs, and it sounds like some went overseas. I think someone said some were Larry Smith built, some were Wellcraft built?
Or is everyone still on OSO also on fb and have already seen this discussion?

There were 5 F1 boats built the hulls were built here in CA at Larry's shop and sent to Wellcraft to be finished. The boats were good up to about 85 to 90 and then they got a little lose. I have run the standard bottom 26 to over 100 with a 650HP blackhawk on a rail. That's why I removed the step insert from the mold and build them with the original Delta Pad bottom. Much better ridding and all around handling . Regards Dan

Thanks Dan. I appreciate the input.
I don't race Pro Series offshore anymore so tight turns around a turn buoy at high speed isn't much of a necessity. Nowadays its either running in the Shootout in controlled water, or "light it up" on short runs in good water. (I know, I'm gettin old)
That being said, can you tell us the top speed difference between the V with pad, compared to the step-bottom hulls with identical power and Bravo 1 drive?

It might be that same situation with my friends old 27 straight Fountain. It was probably slower in theory to the step bottomed 27's others owned, but you could do 100 in it. Where as the others boats would get out of shape trying to get and never hit the same speeds. And his 27 was a handful between 70-80 mph getting it on the pad.

As I have always said I believe that the 26 Larry Smith boats are faster and more stable than the 26 Step Bottoms. the problem I had with the Step bottom was that at about 82 it was a handful . I have run the Delta Pad boat to well over 100 on rails. boat boats were Bravo boats. But that is just my observation Regards Dan
