Nice. Great looking boat, should be perfect when you're done!

When you go to redo it you may consider a 1 inch layer of balsa wood on outside layer, followed by a layer of glass, and a final layer of a more traditional hardwood with a mat of glass over that. The balsa wood grain does not allow water to travel and will not allow the whole transom to rot out. The grain itself travels front to back instead of side to side like the traditional wood. You may get some localized rot from water penetration, but will remain localized and will not spread. This is the build method of Saber and can tell you from experience and reading some of others that it works. They also don't run the wood all the way to the edges, there is a gap of 1-2 inches and don't quite understand why, just that it works well.

Kidding aside this looks like a familiar story. Is the cabin floor soft?

I’m sure you noticed how they layed the wood in the boat THEN did the glass work. The wood all touches and causes the rot to wick forward. I hope yours is not as rotten as mine was. I had to replace almost everything.

When I put mine back together I made sure that wouldn’t happen again.

Lot of work but you’ll be happy when you’re done.

Cabin floor was completed rotted away. Cock pit floor was soft in a few spots.

OMG! How do you ever know where to start? I would be devastated.

We’ll you pick up a grinder put a wheel of death on it aka circular saw blade get a buddy with a chain saw and start cutting and don’t stop until you find dry wood. !!!!it’s not all that bad to do just takes some time and effort !

Ok I have a question as a Fountain owner and what everyone always has said is a flaw in the way they were built (Including Glass Dave).

Did you glass any of the stringers etc before you started putting them all together? The though being IF latter water does start to find its way in the whole structure doesn't soak up the water like a sponge, it can only go to as far as the piece it started.

Yep all the pieces were glassed separately out side the boat once dried all edges were cleaned up then everything way installed and tabbed in. Once that cures then everything get wrapped with a few layers.

Progress is amazing!

We’re getting pretty skilled at this know lol after a few boats

That is kinda the idea with a few other changes we are doing should all be laid out perfectly.
