The results are often okay when the boat was notched at the factory when new. The reason is, of course, that they take

into account that they need to move the weight forward and often design the strakes differently on a notched design.

When you notch a boat that was not built like that from the factory, it's a little bit of a lottery unless the rigging is very well done.

Jonas has a famous marine business and builds a lot of engines and rig boats, among other things. He never mentioning

changing the design of the 38 KV's strakes, and his notch was very similar to yours. I think you will do well. The Excel

and the 38 KV are the same and even though the Excel has got the raised deck, I don't think things will be much different.

Move the weight forward until the boat is balanced. Give Dan at Team Archer Marine in Huntington Beach a call. He's the

authority on Scarab models and one of the most experienced riggers in the business. It will save you time and money

getting invaluable advice from him. He's a pro, I'm, at best, a knowledgeable hobby guy.

I have talked to Dan at team archer from cali. He told me to extend the strakes to the trans with a bravo boat and standard drives picked up if I remember correctly 8-10mph just extending the stakes. Dan is very knowledgeable and I have learned a lot from just talking to him over the phone for a few hours

I'm gonna run the boat with standard length drives and see what it does then run it with -2" shorties

Generally speaking, at 60mph, the water shearing off the transom rises 4° angle. The faster you go, the shallower the angle. Time vs distance. Having shorty drive options really helps dial it in.

A lot of hull tuning is about balancing the forces, so you're not making more drag to achieve a stable ride.

Example would be a good bow lifting prop, and using tabs to keep the bow down. Lifting strake adjustment is a very advanced tuning solution. Great to hear you're going to modify.

Your work is top notch. Looks amazing.

Just a little info. Wellcraft use to build the 38 KV with a notched transom and they worked alright. I have an 81 KV at the shop right now with a factory notch. But I am converting it to a full staggered setup. But your boat should do just fine remember to raise the X dimension for the notch.
