1998 31? Avs
#1
Would anybody happen to know any info on 98 stepped bottom 31s. I know the 31 hull became the 33 when they molded in the swim platform but I never heard anything about a 31 avs until I saw one the other day. I have only seen the 33s and was curious as to whether Wellcraft ever marketed and sold to the public any 31 stepped hulls. I know there is at least one out there and am interested in the history. Mike J. are you out there. I am sure yopu know. Thanks.

The story as I understand it is, that the convential 31 hull was sent to Larry Smith to be re-tooled into the AVS hull. Im guessing that there were at least a couple of prototype 31 avs's made during that process, but I never heard of them being marketed. My understanding was that when the AVS set-up was released for sale to the general public it was introduced as the newly designed 33 which incorporated the swim platform. I would like to hear from someone more informed than myself what the actual facts were. Thanks, Regards, Mark

Scarabman, Yep im still around
but I have not been with Team
Scarab for over 5 years now.
There were 2 Hulls I really
like that were made at the
Team Scarab shop, One is the
16ft Jet Sprint, And the other
is the 31ft with no steps.
Both hull molds are in a storage lot in SoCal.
There were a few hulls made
from the molds and finished
boats were sent to Wellcraft.
I have a copy of all the 16ft
Boats built but not the 31ft.
Wellcraft Eng. changed both
Boats and they never worked
the same.
Most of the records are in a
storage area and I have no
interest in trying to get any
info.

That boat doesn't appear to have any steps. I own the same 1997 31' boat with 502MPI power (different colors).
Keep in mind that the 7.4 package will probably only do about 62 to 65MPH at best. I have a friend with the same setup and that's all he gets.

Looks like they don't know the boat that well from the info given in the ad. They state 660 hp, one would assume that they are base 454s. When in fact they show to be mags in the pics. 770 hp maybe?????
