Default Side Vents

I'm looking for idea's. I have a 1988 28ft Scarab Excel, nice boat, very happy with it. I am adding a hood Scoop and doing away with those ugly ss side vent grills.
I had thought of using the large plastic shaped grills that you see on some of the newer Scarabs, or....... open to ideas?
I do have to contend with 19"*4.75" opening.
Another thought was to purchase some sort of a composite material that could be cut to shape, installed over the opening, add a couple of plastic or stainless side vents, paint!
Has anyone done this same project?

i considered doign somethign like this but it woudl require glassing it up and workign from there to install soemthign new. Big hassle and will wind up being an expensive project.

naca vents might be kinda cool taht what iwas thingking of doing

If you are adding a large scoop on top, you no longer need any side vents. Glass them up and have someone match the gelcoat. Not that expensive and the boat would look MUCH cleaner.

Take a side view pic and use Photoshop to take a look at what it would look like without the vent. I think you will like it.

Just did the same thing on my 38 Scarab flatdeck.

I did install vents on the transom above the swim platform, so I guess just plain glassing the vents over would be cool!! No pun intended.

Hey are you looking to sell your old steel vents. one of my employees tossed mine in the dumpster by accident. I been looking all over for a vet to cover the hole but I cant find anything big enough.
