SCARAB NINJA Special
I Just purchased a 1988 Scarab "Ninja SPecial" 34 foot
This boat looks brand new....Everything is perfect. Twin 502's that have 200 Hours on them and run perfect. Can anyone tell me anything about this edition of the SCARAB. Where can I get info. I have been told that there were only 16 of this edition made. Thanks for help. |
Re: SCARAB NINJA Special
Why don't you post a pic or two, we want to see your new ride. :D
BTW, welcome to OSO and congrats to your boat. :) |
Re: SCARAB NINJA Special
From what little I know, I think it is a flat deck version of the scarab III. I am constantly checking Boatrader.com for scarabs for sale and I have seen about three for sale in two years. There was one for sale on Ebay about 3 weeks ago. If I remember correctly it sold for around $35,000

Re: SCARAB NINJA Special
I have the same boat!
I guess that account for 2 of them. From what I know, heard, this was a limited run, but not too sure how limited. I gather there was some "copy right" infringement with the name "NINJA', Kawasaki comes to mind. Anyway, they continued on with the hull, but dropped the NINJA for RAIDER. I have seen them with OB's too. It has Kevlar in the hull layup to lighten things up. it is a pretty fast hull for its day. For me, I have owned mine since 92. I love the ride in the rough water. It is a beast. Due to transom problem, damn, I went through a major overhaul and update of the boat back in 98. You'd never recognize it today. Good luck and happy boating. Scott |

Re: SCARAB NINJA Special
Hi, I'm new here too. when at wellcraft site I saw in the resource section a kind of car type window sticker for the boats that were produced and the options that could of come with them. I did see your boat there when I looked for mine. I thought your boat was interesting and unique. There wasn't much history but specs none the less. I dont know if you saw my post 'new to oso' I posted some pics there, its a limited edtion also, 1988 nova spyder topgun edition, which I was told there was 11 made. Post some pics of your boat! Oh ,anyone know anymore about my boat?

Only 5100???? How´s that, any info here??? I´m told Kevlar Scarabs (38KV) are only 600lbs lighter than standards? Saki. I drove the boat the night before you got it to the docks for transport (you got it next to our construction rental outlet at Sompa)...:drink: Checked the engines etc for the seller just to be sure the deal turns out ok. You got a great buy although I myself would´ve liked some more options on that boat (K-planes, trim gauges and some small things) My Dad did an offer on that same boat while it was brand new so I have known about its whereabouts the whole time. The deck is a bit wavy thou and the electrics needs a little freshening (WD-40 will do wonders here and there) and you´ve got a Great boat there for a nice price. Don´t you ever paint the bottom...get a trailer for it. PS did you adjust the valves and timing like I suggested..just to be sure, call me at 040-501-3951 if you need any info. |

Saki.
Check them valves..one might float alittle, hence the low comp on one cyl, about the firing problem, new sparkplugs, sparkplug wires, distributor cap and stator should do the trick. If it has floated long enough a valve might have burnt (an exhaust in this case) but I doubt it. Like I said that engine was the one I was more worried about. Check also that the exhaust manifolds and neck doesn´t leak into the exhaust->cylinders...sure way to totally destroy an engine is neglecting that, especially every fall you should take them off. It has only 8 hrs on the engines so I never went higher than 3000 with them..they barely got warm on an hours drive...(remember that one...no up to plane for the first 30 minutes in our cold waters) I´d keep the original graphics/maybe different colours and paint/vinyl the rear all gloss black (a´la early Cigarettes) and lose that swim step...but thenagain I´m a hardcore oldschooler so don´t listen to me :-) PS just for the heck of it...look at this one... Black Ninja Hi,thanks for the complete info...We do have at the time more and moe problems with the right hand engine, the one behind the driver's seat.We have changed spark plugs, spark plug wires,"virranjakan kansi,pyörijät".We discovered at the first when we got the boat, when we were measuring "puristukset" that one of the spark plug wires was cut off/broken.The same cylinder, where this wire was broken, had not more than just under 8 ,where the other cylinders gave results of 11 . Then there was also a problem with the choke,it was forced to be open/on.Why would this be ??? If possible,we can continue writing and also maybe in Finnish so it is easier, here is my email : [email protected] . |
34 scarab That looks awsome!! Where did you find the windscreen? or did you have it made?

Interesting.....
|
Outlaw30, Nope. Maybe a Cig emblem though.
963b: Thanks, through a lot of tedious work, including repalcing the transom, I fabricated it myself. It has held up extremely well over 10 yrs. of use. I do get a lot of compliments on it. It even has an enclsed head now too! MikeyFIN: To the best of my knowledge, the NiNJA never was offered with a FG windscreen. May be wrong, but I'd bet $$ on it. |

I´ve known Sakis boat since it came from the factory, and YES it has had a fiberglass screen from factory. It´s also a Kevlar Ninja. (Yes I´ve checked the serial numbers on it too). The screen has even Wellcraft logos on it if memory serves correct. |

Mine is, and I witnessed that upon drilling into the transom. And , yes, there is a raised portion just in front of the dash, which was all integral tot he original layup. It did have the word SCARAB on it, but this was to provide some room in the cabin in the sitting area. They had the aluminum, flat glassed windsheild on all of them. I built mine up just about 2" shorter than the original glass height. I'll try and get some before and after pictuures and post. I'll need that $$ now.......:) |

Hmm All Ninjas Kevlar reinforced then....there might be some finds if one wants a fast boat...A Ninja hull blueprinted some nice 496/502´s maybe blown and sportmaster drives if Bravos are original if TRS then Konrad or why not a TRS or Bravo Arneson conversion... The key is low weight here... |

Yep. Believe it or not, still got the old Scarab. She hangs on a lift in my backyard. Shame, doesn't get used as much anymore. Priority change. My running the 525 SC's and still turns heads. Let me know if I can help at all.
