Default Need help. I have

Two 454 magnum normaly aspirated motors with Bravo 1 outdrives in my 1990 31' Scarab. Can someone tell me the answers to the following questions??

1. What HP are these motors rated at??
2. I want to add blowers of some sort without getting into the internals of the motors and having to beef up the outdrives. Any suggestions on type and how much boost and performance gains??
3. How much HP will the stock outdrives handle and if they won't what are my options??
4. Will I need to add hydraulic steering??
5. What about some type of headers?? Right now just stock manifold setup. any upgrade suggestions.

6. in short what can I do to this setup to get more speed and power??

7. Also has tow mirage 3 blade 23pitch props?? ( are those the best bet)??

8. Last question (newbie here) above the props on the outdrives are little triangular fins that seem to be positions kind of like the indicator on a sundial but upside down. The one on the left outdrive is perfectly straight and the one on the right outdrive is turned out to the right side) what are these and are they set properly??

Thanks for all the help in advance

Andreas (new to this forum and new to scarab ownership)

1. 365 hp

2. Those could take 2-3 pounds of boost and get another 150 hp or so. BUT, if they have lots of hours you are just asking them to blow up. If you do go with boost 93 octane is a must.
3.Bravos are good for about 500 hp, but if you run hard an XR or XZ would be better.

4.You should be right near hydraulic steering speed with that power. And it's much nicer and safer even at slower speeds.

5.You will need to go with some type of performance exhaust to get the best results with a blower. Lot's of choices there.

6.If the engines have lots of hours a swap to 496's or HP 500's may be the quickest, cleanest way to more horsepower.

7.What RPMS does it turn now??

8.Those are steering trim tabs. If you have power steering(you should) they can be set straight and you should have no problems-ditto with hydr strg. Or you can buy "high performance" zincs that have no tabs for better prop clearance.

Welcome to our merry band of misfits
