There was a company located in Sarasota who made windshields/screens and cabin doors for Scarabs in the early 1990's called Viplex. I ordered an add on windscreen for my 28' around 1994, cost more to box it, and ship it than to build the piece itself.

Does this windshield look a lot like the one on the Donzi home page???

I wonder if it's the same mold - Sarab Sarasota, Donzi Sarasota...mmmm

You know, that's a very good thought!! Might be worth a call to Donzi and some of the other manufacturers in Florida to find out who's OEM'g their wind screens.

Most of the manufacturers are simply assembly points. I know Wellcraft claimed to have some craftsmen on the factory floor, but most products were manufactured by small shops from the immediate area. Viplex was one such company. Sarasota Chamber of Commerce might also be a good source to locate info about the company.

Just did some research on Viplex. Got bought by Uniroyal Technologies in 2001, who went belly up in 2002. Somewhere along the way they were purchased by Polycast, who got purchased by Spartech. So I figure that they must now be Spartech Marine up in the Vero area (who doesn't use Polycast materials but Chemcast from Mexico - go figure how THAT works...
We're currently tooling on that windshield for Donzi and should be in production in about 30 days. When we're making an item for an OEM we don't go direct but if it fits the Scarab I think we can do it.

When I called down there I got the same story, but I find it hard to believe.

As soon as they find out a person on the other end of the phone line owns a Scarab, the interest level to help drops completely. Somebody, or some company must have had the forethought to buy up plans, molds, parts, etc. Maybe I'm wrong, but one would think the amount of Scarab's on the water today would still drive an aftermarket for a specialty shop selling those custom parts.

Some pieces of our boats were made by factory craftsmen, but others were jobbed out. I would think somebody still has those plans and molds.

I think Spartech Marine had the molds but they've been backing out of the windshield business period.
We've been tooling for them one by one - we're tooled for three of the versions and hopefully we'll get the one that goes in the inside radius of the mold. We've been promised a sample thanks to the members here at Offshoreonly.
